Christopher Ledger & Soms brought us a 74 mins music podcast with their unique and special touch. Somewhere between elegance, melancholia and yearning a silver lining of hope.

These two italian guys met up back in the 2014 in the wonderful city of Milan where Soms had just graduated at SAE while Christopher was studying music programmation (Max/MSP) and history and philosophy of music and art in a specialized institution.

Being both multidisciplinary artists and once having introduced each other to their approach and vision on art, the connection was instantaneous and kept growing in a very natural way as time passed.

Their collaboration goes on since several months and after different audio results, file exchanges and long talks on their visions and interests, they feel ready to put out their works anytime soon, releasing music mostly together but keeping their single artistic names.

Christopher Ledger presents CL-0.0, an independent EP released in November by the artist himself, that’s intended to be distributed only in physical record stores & Discogs (). The tracks are co-produced with Soms and were already featured several times by kingpins such as Petre Inspirescu or Herodot.

Christopher worked with the same formula that served him so well on 2015’s Seventh Orphism EP; only the playground has changed, creating a label that wears entirely his signature: that is combining electronics with elegiac string arrangements and subtle field recordings.
Vinyl opener “Untitled 5” evokes a sense of reverie, introducing the listener into atmospherics that slowly unfurl like an early morning fog along the waterline. Fragments of voices drift through the track, barely audible but smoothly adding yet another layer of eeriness to the orchestration. Side B starts with one of the EP’s stirring moments, due to the manner in which the piano and French inciting vocals float around each other on “Any Homothety is invertible”. The speech closes with a mournful piano tune and seems the soundtrack of a walk in the French Riviera soaked in rain. The dense arrangements on this one may require more than one listen to peel back all the layers - and that’s truly delightful. The journey continues with “Nort”, an eight-minute piece of cinematic sounds, fusing the clattering beats and drumming games from the surface with darker lower tones, overall building an emotional depth that pays off handsomely during the song’s climax twist.
Ledger is a spirit that prefers the experimental to the expected — not necessarily trying to blow your mind with the audio experiments as much as suggesting a sacred place to escape from the surrounding reality. The outcome is taking the audience on a classical avant-gardist journey, its roots lying in the artists’ shared love for a cinematic sonic landscape.

Fresh from the success of their ‘Past / Present / Future’ release, we  march on, with Berlin-based Italian Christopher Ledger the man responsible for their label’s 41st release. The ‘Percezione and Retrospettiva’ EP sees Ledger in flying form, as he props up with two dexterous, thoughtfully executed tracks that speak volume of his ability to craft atmospheric sounds.  

Opening up the release is the sounds of ‘Retrospettiva 2’, a future leaning techno jam that again wonderfully fits the Brouqade aesthetic. Clearly indebted to sci-fi spheres, this one is very much cut from a Detroit cloth, with a steely finesse that lurks from the get go. A track that brings the listener on an endless journey, it comes  some deep harmonic vibes. All things told, this is an EP of various contrasting sounds, Ledger’s debut for Brouqade is a stunning example of what can happen when producers think outside the box.

The B side consists of ‘Percezione Attiva’. Harmonic, blissful tones abound throughout, made all the more meaningful by a slew of gentle, melancholic piano chords that really pull on the heartstrings. A light and hazy experimental piece, the track forces parallels with other masters of suspense.  Culminating with a more traditional 4/4 vibe, this unusual turn only enhances the producer’s standing as a man willing to take risks.
