Sound Transitions is proud to present an EP from Selfhood. The EP, titled Stay Calm, is four tracks of sumptuous electro - two originals backed with two remixes by J-Wax and Bailey Ibbs. The four tracks that make up the EP are bright, sunny, fun, and full of movement. This is hands-in-the-air dance music; perfect for the warmer months and picturesque sunsets. Though the EP is only two tracks and two remixes, there is a great deal of variety throughout while still keeping a similar propulsive, uplifting feeling going in each tune. @krotone brings his unmistakable brand of garage and breaks to Scuffed Recordings on his 16 Deck EP.

Leeds-based producer Krotone is one of the most unique producers working in garage and breaks in recent years, with releases on labels like DEXT, Of Paradise, and DPR, alongside appearances at Outlook Festival and some of his hometown’s most prominent venues.

Krotone’s sound flits between 2-step UKG and breakbeat with a healthy serving of groove, bass weight and dub influence. Produced on a hardware setup, Krotone’s sound is shot through with an upfront rawness that makes his tracks stand out in a crowded field.

His 16 Deck EP features three new tracks, from the the lurching swing of opener ‘Watch’, to the satisfyingly wobbly title track, and closing with the taut, stuttering 4x4 and spaced-out dub chords of ‘Original’.

Having made it into Mixmag’s Top 20 Labels of 2016 chart, Kaizen looks set to start 2017 with an almighty bang. 

The third release on Madam X’s burgeoning imprint comes from Manchester based Walton. After several releases via Kode9’s Hyperdub he released his debut album ‘Beyond’ to critical acclaim and once you add to that a trio of fine EPs on Tectonic, we see an artist with seemingly unlimited potential. 

Walton is no stranger when it comes to dark frequencies and the superb ‘Taiko’ EP takes influence from Far Eastern sounds with a wealth of space and subtle percussive grooves. 

The A-side features two fierce and stark club cuts, with ‘Tension’ setting the tone for the murkiness inside. You may recognise the track from Madam X’s wildly hyped Boiler Room set and it’s found it’s way into Loefah’s bag too. Title track ‘Taiko’ hinges on a groove that bounces and slams its way through the runtime with Mary Ann Hobbs a fan of “the dark, tribal textures”

On the flipside the pace is kept up with two more dense, atmospheric tracks, with ‘Black Hole’ employing a heavy set, feverish use of percussion and ‘Zen’ acting as a more cinematic cut, almost like a weightless, demonic lullaby.

The EP has been on the club circuit for at least a year before seeing release, but the wait is now over and it’s time for Madam X to take Kaizen to the next level.

He might have only landed his first releases in 2014, but in just a few years Murder He Wrote has made more than an impact on the UK’s fertile bass scene. In this short time he’s become pretty infamous for playing a particularly weighty range of club ready tracks. Fusing elements of garage, hip-hop, dancehall and funky, it’s music driven by its eclectic nature, while its ties also lie firmly in the UK. Having signed for two releases last year, Murder He Wrote has recently found somewhat of a home on Roska Kicks & Snares, meanwhile he’s also garnered support from UK veterans Toddla T and Zinc.  

With his FABRICLIVE debut on 10th March just around the corner, he dropped this fresh mix for us to demonstrate the broad spectrum of his musical world.

Lead track 'Pressure' is a continuation of KAIZEN'S recognisably weighty bass-inspired sound, carried by hefty kicks and screwed synths after a lengthy cosmic build-up.

A downtempo influence runs through 'Dreamscape', the floaty synths countered with skittering drums, while EP closer 'Whistle Blower' is packed with industrial percussion and creepy bleeps made for those heads-down, screw-face moments on the dancefloor.
