For the September edition of our mix series, we welcome Detroit artist 2lanes. His love for music began early through drumming, and he started crafting his first beats on an MPC with floppy disks while living in New York.

Shaped by his first rave experiences in New York and the energy of Detroit’s scene, 2lanes brings a pristine and immersive sound. His music often acts as a visualization of environments and stories. Whether it’s the outline of characteristic buildings in his city or tales from friends about raves, he imagines what those buildings or moments would sound like in music.

The recording he created for us takes inspiration from the many forest and outdoor festivals he has attended recently, as well as his love for extended blends of deep techno. The result is a journey that pulls you in from the very first moment and lets you drift effortlessly into the woods.

Detroit’s Craig Gonzalez was drawn to vinyl from a young age, captivated by hip hop and the underground party scene of the 1990s. This fascination quickly evolved into a lifelong passion for DJing, driven by a desire to weave rhythmic layers into compelling, personal stories. 

A self-taught artist, Gonzalez’s collection spans the rich musical evolution of Detroit, including techno, house, hip hop, funk, dnb, and a diverse range of other genres. His skills were further honed during his residency at Solar in Ann Arbor, where he shared the decks with renowned artists. Gonzalez has also been a frequent fixture at Movement and other major local events, where he’s shared the stage with legends in the electronic music scene. Since 2022, he has been a resident DJ for the Third Thursday monthly event by Paxahau, further cementing his presence in Detroit’s vibrant nightlife scene. 

Deeply influenced by the musical depth of Detroit and the hypnotic craft of global artists, Gonzalez’s style reflects a rich, interconnected network of like-minded creators. His connection to family, history, and the culture surrounding electronic music gives his sets a profound sensibility, effortlessly translating onto the dance floor.

It's one thing to hop on the decks with someone during peak time at a party in a packed room like the first time Haruka and I played together in NYC but it's another to open a party during the last leg of RTTS weekend. So we started talking about the set a couple of months beforehand, but nothing really prepares you until you're in the middle of RTTS weekend itself. We were texting and chatting about the setup and direction throughout the weekend and eventually landed on keeping things a little funky and fun.  Playing with someone with a similar approach to DJing and also range really made the set feel so effortless for me and I feel that cohesion and the fun we had translated quite well to those that were in attendance.

We were both booked to play a Bunker party that night and with an hour left before our room was about to shut down, I asked Craig to jump on for an unplanned B2B.  Craig had already set the room up with a deep, super-diverse selection and then vibe in our room was so good, I will never forgot it. So when IT asked us to do it again we got hyped.

RTTS, Detroit
Our slot opened the last day of the three-day marathon, and other parties were running in the daytime too, so it felt like one long 72-hour session. Craig also played Movement. It was my first time in Detroit, so I wandered around, popped into a bunch of events, but spent every night back at Tangent Gallery with Craig—talking, listening to other artists, and getting a real feel for the room. That helped us lock in the vibe and refine the ideas we’d been tossing around for months.

The set
Two words kept coming up: funky and fun (maybe sexy too). I played only a few recent tracks but most were older finds with some electro slipped in naturally. In hindsight the whole thing was a back-and-forth between electro and deep, psychedelic techno, with extra flavours layered on top.

January is a routinely terrible time of year, so we decided to hold off putting out our first Forecast of the new decade until now, so as to not sully the music in this excellent mix by our pal Adam Oko with the onerous vibes of that greyest of months. It pretty perfectly showcases the reason why Adam's numerous online mixes or NTS shows are some of the most interesting listens out there and we're really thankful to him for letting us share this sublimely styled hour.

Maybe it's because of this friend, I'm so tightly stuck on any manifestation of the ethnic group. At first, a very ironic pseudonym did not allow us to approach what Anton was doing with full seriousness. I became familiar with it from the “Opium Underground "public, and it is also directly related to the "JAZZVE" public.   

Collects the most arabesques from the most arabesques, rides between the two capitals with DJ sets, visits the regions occasionally and will come to us in the 20th for one of the events "murakhi". And, now, I share with you the long-awaited, next podcast from the "MURAHI" series. 

We can say that we have adapted to Man and created a whole branch of music, accompanied by goosebumps - the highest degree of pleasure from external factors, except that it is inferior to orgasm.
