Started making beats two decades back for the burgeoning Joburg hip-hop scene, took a detour through electro and dubstep DJing, was DJ Maramza for several years, and now here I am: back making beats that mix up the best of electronic music around the world.

Kwaai-Fi is a South African label putting out electronic music in various shapes, sizes, forms and colours.

Speaking in genres, the sounds here range from kwaito, house, future beats through to experimental gqom, lo-fi, downtempo and electronica.

  Hailing from his hometown of Atlanta, Joel Shapiro, aka J Lumen has been an avid musician for over 15 years.  After playing in numerous bands with a variety of instruments between 1995-2003, Joel eventually gravitated to solo projects, including turntablism, guitar, vocals, and piano.  After spending 5 yrs in the Army He has come back to ATL to pursue his music.
Since his return he has quickly earn a foothold in the Atlanta market, playing events with headliners such as DJ Dara, BARE, Cyberoptics, Phutureprimitive, Arion, LoIq, and Gustolabs.  His passion and versatility during his performances make for an incredibly high energy vibe mixed with melodic vocals.
