Recently we’ve been playing a lot of private parties and gigs around NYC  - - and this weekend we were asked for a fuLL dub // bass set. We decided to put a little Indian twist on it in honour of Durga Pooja, which is just finishing off now with her immersion in the sea. In fact, we’re releasing this set in Brooklyn just as Dussehra descends on India :: the holiday that celebrates the victory of good over evil. JAI !!

Dauw — literally ‘condensation of atmospheric moisture in the morning or evening’ — is a subtle nuance for the presence of this Belgian bred music lover with a deeply rooted passion for jazz and soul music. Not sticking to one particular style his sound can be described as minimal house music in all its deepest forms and tempo ranges. Warm melodies often go together with groovy, heavy bass lines creating a particular deep vibe that has energy enough to get the party started, to going way passed sunrise and every moment in between. Over The Moon is delighted to present our sophomore release, the debut release from a bright new talent on the downtempo scene.  Encounters, from Bay Area based multi-instrumentalist and producer Tyler Hovestadt, is a project that seeks to find balance between organic musicality and electronic exploration.  On 'A Path Beyond', Encounters gently evokes a sense of calm through uplifting tones and thoughtful progression, enveloping the listener in a cocoon of heart centered magic.

“ A Path Beyond has been in the making for several years, drawing influences from real world experiences and people I've crossed paths with. It is the first album from Encounters with each track composed to evoke a different feeling from its listener. I'm excited to finally share this music with the world.” - Tyler Hovestadt/Encounters

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Tyler Hovestadt began his musical endeavor by experimenting and improvising with synthesizers as a part of garage jam sessions with his friends. After furthering his craft in sound design and arrangement, he went on to produce his own compositions and establish Encounters. Aiming to marry the digital and analog world, Encounters fuses organic, live-recorded percussion with meticulously constructed electronic soundscapes. 

ABOUT OVER THE MOON:

Over The Moon is the sister imprint of Behind The Sky Music, a record label created by established electronic producer Bluetech which is committed to releasing high quality limited edition vinyl presses of analog and modular synth music.  Formed during the pandemic lockdown, Over The Moon is a collaboration between label partners and longtime friends Evan Bartholomew (Bluetech) and Maggie Houtz (DJ Maggie). The two work closely on co-producing the weekly Twitch audiovisual show Holotropic Happy Hour as well as the various artists Matters of the Heart compilation in summer of 2021 for Behind the Sky. Maggie’s love for - and encyclopedic knowledge of - downtempo electronica is the guiding force in curating a catalog of gorgeous and emotional electronic music.   Over The Moon was born out of an inspiration to showcase more explicitly electronic, beat-driven music that sits just outside the parameters of the Berlin school ambient and analog synth-oriented releases of Behind The Sky.

Shadowfox Party Mix - Summer 2024

Bio: The Shadowfox persona is a place to explore darker themes and heavier, more aggressive sounds. The creator behind the mask is a multi media artist that uses art to bring people together, although not always under this alias. The Kaleidofox project is still the main source of inspiration, and has a lighter style best described as medicine music. Both styles are like nothing that you've experienced before, even with the heavy influence of deep dub and the underground bass scene. The reason for this is because of their study with a wide range of instruments in many different types of settings combined with the intensity and profundity of their life. From living under a bridge in their teens to living in the mountains with monks. From singing in concert halls to playing in marching bands to busking with a guitar. When all of these aspects come together in the exploration of music, you get something unique that you have to experience to believe.

“Stand With Us to Bless the Waters” is our prayer of solidarity for the Lakota Sioux Nation, & all the Water Protectors who have converged in North Dakota Standing Rock Reservation at the Dakota Access Pipeline. This is the first time in centuries that all the indigenous nations of Turtle Island (America) have come together in unity & guardianship for our Earth. This unprecedented tribal convergence has been catalyzed by the pipeline, but is representative of something much larger & more profound than a protest. 

In support for the situation in North Dakota, Amani Friend (Liquid Bloom) and Summit Jaffe (Numatik) were both separately inspired to create music for water and prayer.  Coincidentally, the two tracks were both finished at the same time on fall equinox and they were also written in the same key, making it ideal to interweave them into a one unified piece of music. While sitting in the New Mexico Hot Springs after Unify festival, Amani and Summit had the inspiration to curate this remix album. Producers from all over the world, like Earth Cry, Mystral, Soulacybin, Martin’s Garden, Ecometric, Gumi, and Twin Shape added their unique psychedelic downtempo flavors. Native elders like Black Fox Pomani, John Ball Running Eagle, and Yona FrenchHawk imbued the music with intentional water prayers. United together, we humbly offer this medicinal musical journey in support and healing. Water is Life!

In January 2019 I hit the studio with @ZONEDrums and @Tygrisbass for a 3-day music marathon. The aim was to collaboratively make massive strides on a couple new tunes, dial in existing tunes for performance, and capture some video of the results. The mission was a success, and thus the Trio Transmissions continue with a live take on my tune "Vibe" blended into a brand new Trio WIP, "Floating (Ft. Maya Elise)".
