During my travels in Mumbai last year, a Andrew Mackay from Bombay Dub Orchestra connected me with vocalist Vasuda Sharma for a tech house track I was working on. The lyrics "dheer dhariye Re Mana" are improvised during the song with "alaaps" and "Sargam" (Sa,re ga..) bascially meaning, "Have patience my dear heart." 

The idea behind the words: We get restless or disappointed when things aren't the way we'd like them to be. in times like these, one has to remind oneself to have patience because, in the end along with hard word, it's patience that pays off.

Following the first year of Mateo Kingman’s international touring, AYA Records - new imprint from ZZK Records - is releasing a collection of remixes from his debut album "Respira" (breathe).  Few times have we had such an overwhelming response to a new album by an up and coming artist and it's heart-warming to find his work so inspiring for musicians and producers from around the globe. With versions from Japan (Ground), Chile (Matanza) passing through the United States (Jeffrey Paradise from Poolside) amongst others. We can see how songs mutate and adopt new personalities in different hands, exploring new atmospheres and rhythms, down tempos in dynamic songs, inflections and accents, textures and new attributes that appear as the essence of artistic expression and collaboration. This creative transmission attests to an endless quality of the original material and it's our pleasure to share this sampling of remixes to accompany Mateo's upcoming European tour this fall, with debut shows in Amsterdam at ADE and Paris at Hasard Ludique.

"Ramas" (branches in Spanish) is El Búho’s third album of original material and stands for a celebration of the art of collaboration. Featuring 19 collaborations with artists from 12 countries, the album was born organically out of collaborations, mutual appreciation or a desire to experiment and try something new. 

Some of the tracks were started in person, such as "Sky City", born out of a spaghetti-western jam in Thornato’s Queens studio or "Gaviota" inspired by the the seagulls of Brighton following a shared show with Rumbo Tumba in the city. Meanwhile others such as "Elefta" with Hungarian producer Stas or "Kuuma" a track made with Finnish multi-instrumentalist QOSQI were created over long-distance with the producers never actually meeting face to face. The album also contains tracks from long-term friends and collaborators like Chancha Via Circuito, Barda and Wonderwheel head-honcho Nickodemus. 

Musically the album references the blend of Latin American traditional music with original electronic music on tracks such as "Resiliencia" with legendary Chilean producer DJ Raff, an homage to the recent protest movement in Chile, or "Absolut," a track sculpted from an unfinished melodic idea by Argentine electro-folk trio Tremor. Meanwhile songs like "Nevar" and "Kif Kif Kuf Kuf" with Didacte and Kraut, both part of the Shika Shika collective, take El Búho’s sound in a new direction, embracing a more melodic or impactful and rhythmic electronica. 

At its heart of "Ramas" was Perkins’ desire to challenge himself creatively, forcing him to see his own ideas and production style from a different angle or see ideas started in one direction come back completely transformed by the collaborator. The result is at once surprising and diverse but El Búho’s signature sound and aesthetic is the thread that runs through all of the tracks, the trunk to each branch. 

Carrying on the spirit of collaboration, El Búho made an open call for collaborations with dancers & choreographers in his community. Overwhelmed by the response, the album is accompanied by 18 original choreographies by dancers and dance groups from 12 different countries, from Mexico to Taiwan, South Africa or the Galapagos Islands. Each chose the track that most inspired them and shot a video of their dance in a unique and beautiful natural location, in doing so creating yet more ramas or branches for the project.

This release, in association with Interchill Records, provides the opportunity to re-imagine the tracks from the classic Kaya Project album 'Elixir'. Including remixes from Banco De Gaia, Tripswitch, Desert Dwellers, Toires, Master Margherita, Indidginus, Mouldy Soul, Biotone, Digitalis, C23, Chaos By Design & Dubsahara. 

First up is C23's atmospheric dubstep reworking of 'One God Dub'. Haunting zourna, flute & vocal effects are pushed along by a massive bass driven beat. Tripswitch takes it deep with his reworking of '65 percent', focusing on the tribal vocal hook from the original. Subliminal bass drums underpin the glitched-up synth cuts in this hypnotic rolling number. 'Ghasi Ram Blues' gets the Desert Dwellers treatment in a surprise 4/4 reworking. Tribal drums & shaker loops accompany the original vocals by Ghasi Ram. Mouldy Soul aka Richard Carrigan brings the Bass with his remix of the Kaya Project signature track 'Harem Bizarre'. Natasha's dreamy vocals get glitched & gated, pushed along by grooving congas and a crisp kick & snare combination. Toires makes a guest appearance with his remix of 'Raag To Ragga'. Adding live guitar & drums to the vocal, tzoura & violin recordings from the original & replacing the dancehall beat with a head nodding infectious groove. Indidginus aka Michael Martin pushes 'Dark Tabla' into new realms with rude bwoy MC toasting & a tough dancehall beat transforming the track into a jump-up rocking number. Banco De Gaia aka Toby Marks utilises his recent forays into sonic experimentation with awesome results. A polyrhthymic major to minor arpeggio based chill out expedition, reminiscent of the golden years of the ambient movement. Master Margherita brings us the deepest cut of the album, with his remix of 'Pachamama'. Hypnotic sub bass & deep techno tinged 4/4 beats roll along at a compelling 100 beats per minute in a way only Moreno knows how. 

- This album also includes a previously unreleased version of Greg Hunters 'One God Dub' Dubsahara remix. Originally remixed by Greg for the compilation ‘Arcana’ on Interchill Records, this instrumental mix had never seen the light of day until now. A totally different take to his previously released version & one we are happy is finally making it's sonic debut. 

- Seb Taylor also provides 3 more remixes from his various projects, namely Biotone, Digitalis & Chaos by Design, providing us respectively with a 4/4 Electro-Tech remix of 'Raag To Ragga', a deep Drumstep reworking of ‘Harem Bizarre’ & a rolling Glitch Hop infused remix of 'The Flow'.
