James LaVaune Frierson, whose stage name is Jamez Grey, is an American rapper, bred from Baltimore and now a part of Sony Orchard Music, recently landing a distribution deal. Jamez will have audio featured on iTunes and visual on Vevo. Grey is not new to the music game, with his family being well known for their vocals while “The Frierson Singers” were hot around town years prior to him picking up his first microphone. He became serious about his music at age 17 while he was stationed in Germany, serving with the security forces of the military. Freestyling became a way of entertainment with his fellow enlisted men and he quickly became known for his rhyming skills, getting recognition at various rap battles/shows. His first leave of absence with the military brought him to experience the first of many studio sessions at High Rollers with Clinton Sparks in Baltimore. From there, he continued with his music both in Germany as well as Oklahoma City, and ultimately LA, when he made his last move in 2010 to pursue his music career full time. With a distinct sound that can be compared to a mix of 50 Cent, JaRule and Jadakiss, Jamez Grey has collaborated with such artists as Mistasee, Athalie and Clinton Sparks. His first single “Up, Up and Away” drops December 18th.
