Kangding Ray Boiler Room Berlin Live Show

Expressing a musical venture that draws from the combined roots of IDM, house and techno, Mind Against are the Italian native but Berlin based project of Alessandro and Federico Fognini. Heavily affiliated with DJ Tennis’ revered Life and Death camp, the duo embody a sound that they say is “difficult to describe”, instead referring any attempts to define their sonic identity to the psychedelic hooks of 1980s soundtracks and dancefloor antics of Milan’s imperative parties. Currently in the midst of a European tour, the duo are about to stop off at our Charterhouse corner for the very first time when they join DJ Tennis, Clockwork and our main man, Terry Francis in Room Two. But before the aforementioned event, both Alessandro and Federico have kindly taken a few moments out of their busy schedule to tell us what they’ve been up to over the past few and deliver a new and exclusive promo mix along the way...

EX by Plastikman 

Plastikman, aka @RichieHawtin, recorded EX at the Guggenheim, New York’s iconic art museum. This very special performance was at the invitation of influential Belgium fashion designer and artistic director at Dior, Raf Simons, for the Guggenheim’s annual fundraiser, performed around a specially constructed LED obelisk.

Richie Hawtin explains, “I knew that Raf was a long time Plastikman fan so by accepting his offer to perform at the Dior event at the Guggenheim I knew I’d set myself up to a huge challenge. Although Raf was happy to have the already complete Plastikman Live 1.5 show, I locked myself away in a series of intense studio sessions and quickly recorded enough new material for the performance and realized I might also have enough for a complete new album. The music came out of me effortlessly as I was very inspired by the opportunity to play in this beautiful architectural space renowned more for art than music. The location also allowed me to step far away from the dancefloor, giving me a huge amount of freedom to EXplore any sonic ideas that I had. Art, music, architecture, painting, sculpture – these mediums are supposed to live together.”

Plastikman - EX (Preview)

When it comes to @collectif.sub.conscience a flood of memories rushes in. It takes me back to some of my earliest experiences with psytrance parties when I was barely 16 or 17, which undoubtedly shaped my love for the dark and techno side of psytrance, influencing my musical project. Those were some of the best parties I've ever had the pleasure of attending, ranging from intimate gatherings in a cave or a quaint countryside restaurant to the unforgettable Oxo party, Reves ephemeres "Objectif Factory", Chilluvium and probably many others..

Furthermore, there were lot of gigs where they invited me to perform, such as the @doxart_festival and @ethereal_decibel_company Festival, where they expertly managed the chill zone. It was also through their label Sub.Conscience Records that I released my first techno EP nearly four years ago ❤

Collectif Sub.Conscience introduced me to a community of passionate individuals dedicated to fostering the underground and alternative electronic scene in France. These are people who tirelessly contribute to its growth and vibrancy.

Today, I am thrilled to be part of the new compilation recently released on their label. The compilation features eight techno tracks infused with influences ranging from deep to micro to psychedelic, showcasing the local talents of the alternative psy scene.

My track, "Metamorphose," holds special significance for me as one of the first techno pieces I ever created, making it particularly meaningful to share on this compilation.

NORITE, the Brussels-based record label, finishes 2020 in style with the second opus in the Noritian Mysteries series. The incredible 20-track compilation features some of the label's long-time friends and some of the newfound companions.
Josef Gaard's 'Tzumu Chant,' our premiere for today, is one of the standouts from this phenomenal package. 'Tzumu Chant' is a tribal deep techno excursion. Its eerie atmosphere augmented with haunting pads and driven by rumbling kick drum take a listener for a journey that depicts explorations of the depths of The Cango Caves in South Africa in search of mysterious creature Tzumu. 

Noritian Mysteries II is coming out on December 30 via NORITE.

@innertension is the record label of Polish (Berlin-based) artist Blazej Malinowski which is an expression of his deep interpretation of techno. The label aims to provide an eclectic vision of dance music which reaches deep within the mind itself and projects atmospheric and warm sounds for the dancefloor.

The first release on Inner Tension is called 'Katharsis' and it signifies the birth of the label and its sound and direction. 

Katharsis (from Greek κάθαρσις, meaning "purification" or "cleansing" or "clarification") is the purification and purgation of emotions -- through art or any extreme change in emotion that results in renewal and restoration 

The 4-track EP contains 3 originals by Blazej himself and great rework by Oscar Mulero. The A1, 'Katharsis' is a classic trippy and deep techno signature from Blazej. A2 follows with a more clubby track 'Behind' with a hint of psychedelic deep techno feeling. B1, 'The End' brings plenty of energy and without a doubt a peak-time flow; uplifting & high hats hitting.

B2, the Mulero remix of 'The End' captures a real twisted yet emotional journey with a long build up and subtle breakdown with a raw finish

From his early releases on the legendary german imprint raster-noton, to his more recent output aimed at the club, Kangding Ray managed to trace a singular trajectory, navigating the unexplored territories between experimental music and dance music.

Through his consistency as both Live performer and DJ, and a number of critically acclaimed releases, Kangding Ray showed his ability to keep a genuine artistic approach, while slowly crafting a unique universe, equally focused on emotional response and visceral impact.

Kangding Ray’s music tests boundaries, evolving constantly in its exploration of texture and rhythms, while talking equally to the body and the mind.
From his past as architect, Kangding Ray kept a multidisciplinary approach to art, applying his craft in diverse artistic fields such as visual arts, film scores, audiovisual installations and dance performances.
