In times where fantasy worlds are endangered, Saturns Drive creates his own. ‘Next Stop Nebula’ merges oceanic slide guitars and early synth digitalism with 90s inspired rhythms to get any sailors ship sailing.

Saturns Drive is a Berlin-based music project created by Elfy, a producer and DJ from New Zealand who draws inspiration from early sci-fi, exotica and library music, cosmic disco synthesizers, italo grooves and arpy electronics. He has recently been featured on the track "Parallel Panorama" by Saeko Killy and performs regularly along with other artists from Berlin's music community.

Going further into one's psyche, taking a deep breath, eyes closed, watching those flashes within the dark lights become vivid colours. The visions slowly turning into fractals whilst exploring the unknown. These diffracted sights are nothing but your inner reflections, they are within all of us it just depends how far you can look or see. The same process occurs whilst listening to sound, be it here or anywhere else. Listen carefully and try hearing the music within. Whether you are here or there the road to bliss is never too far.

Cosmo Vitelli (warm up set) - Der Keller @ Sameheads 01.03.24

"The two most powerful warriors are patience and time.”, one well-known writer once said. And for the new Birds entry, I welcome @philipp-otterbach, long-time record collector of all kinds of music, DJ and producer, who would approve his words. For a long while he devotes himself with endurance to music. During the 2000s, he threw some forward-looking dances with his old buddy Vladimir Ivkovic in the German Ruhr region. And when Düsseldorf’s shrine for outer-national grooves Salon Des Amateurs opened in 2004, Otterbach became a one of the first residents. Since 2014 he is also out there with his very own sound, releasing EPs on labels like adventurous Dutch Knekelhuis, Themes for Great Cities, Brokntoys etc. In 2020 he dropped his debut album 'Everything Else Matters' on R.I.O.  followed by "The Dahlem Diaries" on Music From Memory Nowadays (2023) and "Correct me if I am incorrectly you" on Offen (2023). Listening to one of Philipp's DJ sets is like shuffling through an imaginary library. His musical language follows an intertwined logic of emotional affects, ineffable magic and endless fantasy. A man for suspenseful storytelling that likes to melt early electronic music, Krautrock, minimalism, and all sorts of tribal rhythms with eclectic voodoo dance, psychedelic guitar tsunami’s, house, techno and electro - always beautifully entangled with a precise feeling for special funk dynamics. This one is another great example of these antics too. Let the mind fly with the birds!

After closing our recent event at 90mil for Slowfoam's album launch, André set about to capture the essence of his set and the evening into a new mix for us.

Reflecting back, it was truly special to see the coming together of such diverse social spheres and how quickly all was broken down in the atmosphere of Andre's music. At the core, his sets are a total celebration of life, an invitation to dance no matter how undanceable or mysterious the song. Music you’ve never heard becomes the music you’ve known all your life.

Across fluctuating tension and rhythm, all sorts of worlds intertwine… digi-dub morphs to acid to avant-folk in perfect harmony. But what stands out most is the pure admiration for DIY music; it’s the curation of a tender heart, finding the purest of souls in the strangest of music. 

Towards the close of this wonderful set, Laurie Anderson recalls ‘I remember where I came from, there were tropical breezes and a wide open sea, I remember my childhood, I remember being free.’ It’s a sentiment that embodies the experience of André music, an invitation to be utterly lost in the most beautiful ephemeral moment, that melancholy-tinged euphoria in the instant before it’s all over, stretched out for eternity.
