The Crying Earth is the opening track of my year-long album project All Realms in Once, created in memory of my grandfather, my first composition teacher, who passed away in 2025.
The piece begins with a lullaby from a Vietnamese ethnic minority song, the first folk melody he taught me to write. It is a lullaby for him to rest, and for my own pain to sleep. Then the music unfolds into grief, blurring the line between past and present, where memories overlap and fade.
