Detroit.  It's where techno was born!

3) The term DJ’s DJ gets thrown around a lot these days, who is your DJ’s DJ? 

There are many DJ's DJ's out there, but for me personally off the top of my head - Derrick May, Steffi, Jeff Mills, XDB, DVS1, Donato Dozzy to name a few...

4) Tell us all about your next up-coming release? 

My next release will be on Supercinema Records - release 002 - 3 solo tracks & one remix from my good friend Patrick Russell.  It will come out in December this year.

5) What has been the stand out track that you’ve playing this month? 

I've been digging the track "Questions" by Private Press on Indigo Area.

Born in 1980 in Metro Detroit and subject to the city’s mid-90’s warehouse parties, Luke Hess has harnessed a deep appreciation for electronic music and the expression of the underground movement. His background in mathematics and engineering has given him a scientific approach to the dance-floor, using frequencies, tones, and soundscapes to transform surroundings and mood.
Luke’s faith based music production landed him a seat with Omar S’ FXHE label & Carl Craig’s Planet-e label in Detroit. Hess has celebrated original productions and remix material on labels such as DeepLabs, FXHE, Planet-e, Dolly, Motech, Rekids, Echocord, Kontra-Music, Modelisme, Ornaments, Echocord Colour, & more. In 2009, Luke released his first album, “Light in the Dark” on Denmark-based record label, Echocord. “Light in the Dark” received glowing reviews and was hailed by many as one of the best deep techno albums of the year. His second artist album “Keep On” was release on CD in 2012 and on 2×12″ vinyl in 2013 and received a superb score of 4.5/5 & recommended review on Resident Advisor.
With over 15 years of DJ experience and many notable LIVE sets across the world, Luke is regarded as a perfectionist on stage. Hess is known to layer his sets in a very detailed, hypnotic, & soulful manner. After playing many notable venues & festivals such as Detroit Electronic Music Festival, Awakenings Festival, Berghain & Panorama Bar – Berlin, Dimensions Festival, ENTER. – Ibiza, Fabric – London, Unit – Tokyo, De School – Amsterdam, Culture Box – Copenhagen, OUTPUT – NYC, Decibel Festival – Seattle, Bassment – Hong Kong, Concrete – Paris, Dude Club – Milan, +++, he is excited to continue exploring the world stage and introducing new and old fans to his raw & deep breed of Detroit techno.
Luke’s continued hard work in the studio & behind the decks combined with his unyielding interest in technology and sound will no doubt stimulate the boundaries of electronic music.

French producer Hemka delivers her debut album on Darko Esser’s BALANS Records imprint this March entitled ‘Hunger Waves’. 

Residing in Paris via Marseille, Hemka has been impressing in the wider techno scene following stellar releases on Radio Slave’s Rekids imprint, TWR72’s Float Records and Tripeo aka Darko Esser’s BALANS label. Hemka’s intricate yet vibrant productions with an emotional, hypnotic edge have garnered support from names such as Rebekah, Anthony Parasole, Truncate and Dasha Rush in addition to seeing her join the likes of Len Faki, Surgeon and James Ruskin in and around the Parisian
and European club circuit. ‘Hunger Waves’ sees Hemka drop her debut album on BALANS following releases from Mike Parker, ROD, 3KZ, label boss Darko Esser and many more.

‘Discovery’ kicks off the album with space-fueled modulations, sweeping synths and uplifting elements before ‘Golden Coins’ deploys shimmering rhythms, eerie yet enticing tones elegantly harmonising with undulant, low frequencies. ‘Emergency’ together with ‘Mushroom Kingdom’ and ‘Retrieved’ see the album gain momentum with three energetic techno rollers which balance tripped-out oscillations, unsettling atmospherics and reverberating weight bouncing off the throbbing kicks.

‘The Lost Levels’ keeps the energy flowing through growling synthesis, spiraling strings and headspinning grooves until ‘Innocence’ lays focus on syncopated 909 rhythms, tension-building melodies and bright, whirling bleeps throughout. ‘Hunger Waves’ moves into emotive territories gracefully fusing euphoric euphony, warm and progressive chords and wistful ambience until ‘Unusual Situation’ rounds
off the impressive package with gentle keys, bubbly drums orbiting around beautifully subtle themes.
