Illenium and Seven Lions Mix- Leaving Pt II

can’t believe it’s been about 1 year since “The Love That Remains.” That was my first mix to cross 1K, 5K, and now 10K+ listens. I’m sure most of you know this but I don’t make any money from listens and the gigs that I occasionally play cover just enough for transportation. I actually lose money with every mix with the amount of music I buy. But that doesn’t matter. It was never about the money.

1 year ago I started upping my mixes with original mashups that I hoped no one has ever heard before. Id like to say I accomplished that! Each and every mix challenges me in so many niche, micro and macro ways as an artist, as a storyteller. “Me Without You” is my fastest and hardest mix to date (~1 song per min for the first 15min!), even though my transitions are pretty basic. In my head I wanted to tell the story of the ups and downs, give and take, ebb and flow of a relationship, with some of my favorite songs right now. Hope you’re able to interpret in whatever way brings you comfort :)

Life has taken me on so many different journeys recently. Some have been so difficult but most have been amazing. I was given the honor of djing my brother’s wedding (also planning for my own lol), went on my first cruise, and now I’m packing to return to edc! When I come back, I have 2-3 more shows in the pipeline and im so damn grateful. It really feels like this project of mine is growing. With that being said, this might be one of my last mixes as Van Thomas. Thank you all for listening and supporting. Every interaction, comment, and dm motivates me to such a high degree. Holding On | Seasonal Feels Mix Vol. 6 (ILLENIUM, Blanke, Seven Lions, Excision & more)

STORY TIME!!!  please read.
 
In the quest for love anew, my latest mix is poised to grace SoundCloud, offering solace to eager ears.
For those who’ve journeyed with me, you understand the intervals between my releases. Each track is a labor of love, an intricate blend born from the fragments of my own existence.

This mix is a symphony inspired by the process of rebuilding after life’s upheavals. Despite a year marked by success, the toll on my family was steep. Music took precedence, and in the pursuit of ambition, I inadvertently let go of my role as a father and partner.

One Crucial Song to this whole mix is "Hate Me" - Two friends ft Billy Lockett (Sadbois Remix). When everything was falling apart at home after my tour with shrek rave/bikini bottom rave, I found myself in a deep depression. It was a dark time I was angry at so much, but more than that I was angry at my partner for wanting to be done with me.

She was the pillar in the relationship, she always made everything feel ok, always held it down, always had the answers. But when I was putting music and the party life before her and our two beautiful children she started to break down. I failed at seeing how much she was suffering with the weight of two parents responsibilities along with her own career and masters program. 

I became so angry that I became abusive, I just wanted the world to burn if It meant that I couldn't have her. I became someone that I wanted her to hate. Because if she would hate me it would make sense for her to leave. It would somehow make it easier for me to move on. I now realize that I couldn't have been further from the truth 

Since April, I’ve been reconstructing the remnants of my life, grappling with the consequences of misplaced priorities. A successful year for me meant her shouldering the weight of both parental roles, leaving me with a hollow ache of remorse.

The past remains immutable, but the future is a canvas waiting to be painted. Now I just find my self asking,  “Can we find love again?”

ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITE MIXES IS HERE. I CANT LOSE YOU ft ILLENIUM DABIN CULTURE CODE NURKO IS a mix i put my absolute heart and soul into. Thee meaning of this mix is so incredibly deep and special to me. So much of it can be thought about being unable to lose someone else a partner, a lover, a friend and it is. But even deeper is not losing yourself. Its not here to spew some "it always gets better' rhetoric but rather "it could get better, and you OWE it to yourself to not let yourself go yet”. The mashup I made with When the Magic Dies & ICU at 47:22 captures the meaning of the whole mix. The female vocals that says "Don't you let me go because we've come this far" is begging you to not give up on yourself because of you've come so far.
