Welcoming Trikk to Truesoul, he brings the quality we have come to expect from both label and artist. His EP starts with Deeper Point, a track that encompasses heavy techno sounds to create a monster of a track. The vocal screams out, laced with pacey highs to give the track tempo and energy. Houx 93 uses a dubbed out, sleazy bass line and a killer vocal hook to full effect in this tough, house killer. Harvey McKay’s Hoax Remix makes use of the vocal and adds some naughty percussion to create an uncompromising groove. Bliss Drive is different to the rest of the EP and has more of a garage feel to it; the funky drums, earth shattering bass line and digital bleeps will knock you sideways! The final track Straight Circles (Beat Mix) repeats and detunes a vocal to engrain it into the memory before prominent highs keep this track moving.

20 Years Of Freerange - 5 x Vinyl Box Set LP

June 2016 sees Freerange Records celebrate 20 years at the top. The label, run by Jamie ‘Jimpster’ Odell and Tom Roberts, is marking the occasion with the summer release of a carefully curated and lovingly assembled 20 track, five vinyl box set featuring exclusive new music from associates old and new, as well as with a worldwide events series.

Over the last two decades, generations of DJs and dancers have gotten down to the Freerange sound. Initially that was a mix of sample-heavy productions incorporating live musicians, flirtations with the broken beat sound and some ground breaking fidget house cuts from Switch and Trevor Loveys. Then, and most enduringly, the label settled into a rich vein of deep house. Shur-I-Kan, Kirk Degiorgio, Milton Jackson, Trackheadz, Stimming as well as Jimpster ushered in this most recent chapter, and in turn the label has helped make household names of many more previously unknown talents from Detroit Swindle to Manuel Tur, Andre Lodemann to Tony Lionni. Wherever you look amongst the hundreds of EP and LP releases on Freerange, you will find nuance and evolution, dance floor sensibility and genuine emotional impact.

That same sense of timelessness characterises this new compilation, which is packed with great music from the likes of KiNK, Pittsburgh Track Authority, Kuniyuki, Kito Jempere, Soul of Hex, Clavis, Detroit Swindle, and of course Jimpster himself, as well as a whole host of other Freerange regulars. There are many highlights across the 20 track package including a warm and skipping house cut from Bulgarian live specialist KiNK, a typically slow burning and beautifully arcing epic from Andre Lodemann and spaced out jack tracks from classically inclined Liverpudlian Tony Lionni.

Big name stars like Detroit Swindle return in style with a robust and acid laced banger, the ever-underrated Milton Jackson builds something melodically magical and Pittsburgh Track Authority layer up majestic string stabs and rubbery bass into soul infused future music. Jimpster himself bolsters the whole package both solo and with Luv Jam as well as remixing Tim Toh, and on each occasion proves why he is one of the pivotal figures of the UK deep house scene.

Few labels make it to twenty releases let alone twenty years strong. Often doing so without making any real fuss, now is the time that Freerange Records deserves its time in the spotlight, and this compilation more than proves that.

Massimiliano Pagliara debuts on Ostgut Ton with his new EP, Time And Again.
Born and raised in the deep south of Italy Massimiliano Pagliara made his way to Berlin in 2001, quickly diving headfirst into the German capital’s club scene (particularly Berghain’s predecessor club, OstGut) until he started DJing in 2003. By the time of his joining with Ostgut Booking agency in October 2015 Massi had already constantly delivered – the DJ and producer has left a strong mark on House music throughout the years with energetic, playful and deep sets behind the decks, two acclaimed solo albums on Live At Robert Johnson and various collaboration projects. His residency at Panorama Bar therefore was a no-brainer – but the musical link by one of House music’s finest with the club’s label was still missing. Now Massi steps up with four new tracks and his first release on Ostgut Ton.
Heavily influenced by classic Chicago House, Electro and early Disco music Massi’s new EP serves as a cross-section of his musical interest as a producer and sonic palette as a selector. Working with vintage studio gear, analogue synthesizers and classic drum machines, his Time And Again EP is as warm and soulful as it’s lush and bursting with strength.

Following hot on the heels of Jimpster’s first single Crave from his
Silent Stars LP, we hit you with a second installment loaded with the good stuff!  With the LP just about to drop, and already garnering much love from DJ’s and critics alike it’s already clear that Jimpster’s 7th LP is going to ensure he keeps his reputation as one of the most consistent
electronic artists in the UK.  As a DJ he also boasts a good ear for emerging talent and here he hands over the reigns to two hotly tipped
producers to rework his originals.

First up we have the incredible Peggy Gou who takes on The Sun Comes Up. Her speedy rise through the ranks over the past 12 months has been down to just a handful of brilliant EP’s on Rekids and Phonica and her skills as a club DJ.  The Berlin based Korean sits somewhere between Detroit, London and Berlin in sound and her DJ sets are an assured, kinetic combination of dark, pulsing house and techno, broken beats and abstract compositions. Her influences shine through on her remix which goes deep and musical whilst retaining an energetic drive for the dancefloor.

Perhaps the most mesmerizing, floor-focused track from the LP is up next; Silent Stars.  An electronic tribal dance which builds to a speaker-
wobbling sub-bass breakdown and wonderful chord section at the climax.

Next, a remix from West Coast native Urulu who came to Jimpster’s
attention through his releases on Let’s Play House, Dirt Crew and his own Amadeus label.   Trying to describe his remix of Where You Are isn’t an easy task, fusing elements of techno, broken beat and afro house, but check it out and if you can think of a suitable new sub genre to
pigeonhole it with, let us know.

Closing the release we have the slow-burning, balearic-tinged beauty known as The Sun Comes Up featuring Jinadu on vocals.  This is one to drop in the warm after-glow of a crazy night under the stars when tired legs and happy hearts crave a soulful groove to give them one last lift.
