hi, I behaved today and followed the instructions quite well, I'm proud of myself!
Made some music( piano, synths, bells etc) over a beautiful field recorded of a rainforest I couldn't identify.

Memories of lost love tend to haunt us, appearing suddenly in the mind and bringing an unexpected sting.  Often it's the good memories that sting the most.  This is the super fun topic I chose for this week's Disquiet Junto prompt.

The prompt was to record a song that is a sequel to another song.  For some reason I immediately thought of "Fred and Renee Make Love" from the Lost Highway soundtrack.  This is one of my favorite movies and I've been wanting to try my hand at more cinematic music lately.

The original is the background music to a love scene, so I imagined the sequel to be Fred remembering that moment.  It's somewhat soft and intimate but also tinged with darkness and, like all memories, distorted in multiple ways.  My composition doesn't compare to the original but I think I tell the story with the sound design and overall mood.

These are a few of my favourite things…  Using old online e synths to create sounds (rather than music), in this case the Ancient Solfeggio Synthesizer I found in 2012. Then, putting the result into ambient v.3 software and improvising on it. Lots of reverb, always lots of reverb. Then, manipulating the original synth sounds in Audacity, using its simplified version of Paulstretch, copying and cutting bits and modifying them to create drones (especially ones to cover abrupt endings and accidents). Then, overlaying the Ambient version, multitracking it and balancing the whole thing until it sounds like this…

Scrambled Solfeggios [disquiet0543]

Hello, I created this one today morning (Friday 18th Nov 2022) using a felt piano library sound and synthesisers along with a descending shepard tone for the bad dream's part. (I have that as a recurring dream: me falling for ever)

There's a "nightmare" chord (some sort of C minor "alt") and then the "sweet dreams" chord (C6/9)
Around 1 minute into the piece the "sweet dreams" chords tries to get in but fails, to be eventually fully heard at the end, before the *rallentando* at 1:42 and back to a nice sleep.

Step 2: Think about the hallmarks of a nightmare.

Step 3: Spend some time with the C6/9 chord. The notes are C E G A D. (In other words: the root, major third, perfect fifth, major sixth, and major ninth.)

Step 4: Create a piece of music that begins with the hallmarks of a nightmare and then gradually transforms into a more positive piece through the use of piano chord C6/9.

I dunno, maybe it's springtime in sunny Paris, but I felt the urge for some old disco vibes.

I didn’t change the original tracks at all, I behaved this time.
I added a beat, for that 50 years old euro-disco vibe and then jammed on a lead synth that brought this to some sort of proto-disco-floyd.

Four on the floor man, you can’t go wrong…
