wow! am loving the mridangam and drums... nvr thought it could feel like that!

I am a bit disappointed by this song. I expected it to be like Raghuvamsa, Nagumomo etc i.e an assault by all instruments. But this was more laid back. Just when I thought the drums will take over, it stopped.

The band’s first ever composition, ‘A Clown’s Junket’ represents Karthick Iyer’s first few steps as he transitioned from a being a freelance violinist to the front-man of his solo outfit. It is set in Raga Sankarabharanam (the Western major scale), one of the most fundamental scales from which many ragas have evolved. It represents the beginning of the musician’s journey, as he balances his feet, while ensuring the audience stays entertained. The chorus signifies joy that comes from reaching small goals the band set for themselves.

Release the Burden is IndoSoul's interpretation of the famous Indian classical krithi Brovabarama composed by Saint Thyagaraja. Set in the raga Bahudari, this piece brings a feeling of introspection leading to a sense of calm. This is one of my favourite tracks in the album — whenever I play this song everything around me fades away leaving me at peace with myself.

The fifth song of #ThePallaviShift

Marubari, composed by Dharmapuri Subbaraya Iyer, is a type of South Indian classical composition called Javali. Javalis are love poems written in simple and colloquial language. The IndoSoul version of Marubari features a brisk version of this classic with an RnB groove. The latter part of the song features female vocals, giving voice to passion, pursuit and desire.

I recently started experimenting with my electric violin to create deep cello-like tones. Once I came up with a few interesting musical 'hooks', I started looking for a song to complement these, and landed on Vatapi Ganapathim, a popular Indian Classical song composed by Muthuswamy Dikshitar. I've added multiple violin and vocal layers to complete the arrangement. I'm so excited about this song, and think this kind of a homogenous arrangement with only violin and vocal tracks to back the main melody can become a theme in itself for more videos in this channel. Hope you like it!

Prelude in Bilahari is IndoSoul's take on the Indian classical song Paridana Meechite, originally composed by Patnam Subramaniya Iyer in the 19th century. This violin and piano duet performed by Karthick Iyer and Dondieu Divin brings together the rich tradition of Indian and Western classical music with the violin melody in Raga Bilahari interwoven with Bach inspired lines on the piano.
