MONIB, is an esteemed DJ, producer, and artist hailing from Qatar with Palestinian roots. With a diverse musical background influenced by Top 40 pop hits, vogue beats, middle-eastern ballads and underground electronic music, MONIB’s sound is a fusion of nostalgic familiarity and boundary-pushing experimentation. They are currently based in Montréal, QC.

MONIB regularly performs across North America, including recent notable events and venues such as Boiler Room, Nowadays NYC, and Société des arts technologiques in Montréal. They have produced numerous musical releases over the span of their career, with their latest “ROCKSTAR” EP being lauded by PAPER magazine as “Each track is unlike the last, as the artist plunges into extreme, yet tender, expression”. They are also the founder of the experimental music events project “Hauterageous” which hosts groundbreaking electronic artists from around the world, and has gained a continuously growing cult-following in Montreal, New York and Toronto.

What even are genres?

Dopamine Drip is Electronic music that veers into Goth Rock, Post Punk, Prog Rock, Industrial and sometimes even Pop—plus Surf Rock, Reggae, Dub, and Trip-Hop. So I’m honestly not sure. Post-Modern?

It all comes together or doesn't, depending on the flexibility of your tastes, your tolerance for noise, and whether you need your songs to just friggin hold still a minute.

Everything here was improvised and touched up in post.

I started as a drummer in literal garage bands at age 15, playing improvised post punk (badly, on a jazz drum kit), while recording and editing projects involving found object instruments and audio collage. Not much has changed since.

I’ve always been more interested in new musical ideas and raw enthusiasm over the craft of musicianship for its own sake. And I find the magic of improvisation is always more exciting than performing precomposed music. 

Dopamine Drip continues this DIY spirit using  synthetic instruments.
