Country music rubs many people the wrong way like it did me for so many years until I moved away from Texas and later returned home to visit and discovered the richness, beauty, and genius of it all in the record bins of many thrift shops. “Lonely Heart Saloon,” gets at the core of what classic country music was all about; the people, love, loss, and heartache. They are the greatest of storytellers and do it and with an exaggerated pathos and poetic imagination as big as the state of Texas or one of their country lady’s hair-dos. Lonely Heart Saloon is all vinyl, complete with pops and crackles.

The musical score for the work "The First Black Men on the Moon." A 12 minute multi channel video work by Kasem Kydd
The First Black Men on the Moon is a work unbound to the digital lineage of video making, and unbound to the sculptural lineage of object making. The work is a three channel video for multiple monitors mounted in glossy black frames/shelves working in tandem with the “cultural artifacts” of my blackness. In this context, the work isa musical score narrating the experience of the first black men on the moon. Who are they, what are they doing, where are they from, what does it mean to be a first, and the question of how will these men co-exist in this space. The First Black Men on the Moon creates a different history, present, and future in relation to black liberation and space travel. Breaking down barriers of order and oppression, and creating new rules around who is memorialized and remembered helps to create new narratives that are not written by white supremacy. These three triptychs envision a world where there are, for the first time, black people on the moon. The questions of why they are there and what they experience there create nuanced points of view to discuss black liberation.

Jeff Mills is one of the biggest names in techno. Hailing from Detroit, he was a founding member of the noted label Underground Resistance before moving to NY in 1992 to pursue a solo career. Famed for his stripped-down, pounding industrial DJ sets, Mills plays regularly in London at his Lost club nights. Mills' music fuses acid and industrial techno with the typically sparse hardcore of Detroit. His releases include two full-length volumes of 'Waveform Transmissions' (Tresor), a live album and rarities collection for the British label React, and the first album in a new contract with Sony Japan, as well as a handful of 12-inch EPs on Axis and several collaborations with Robert Hood on his M-Plant label. In 2000, Mills scored a new soundtrack for Fritz Lang's 'Metropolis'.
