Recess mixes are always inspired by real life, ideas and journeys we have been through, and feel most people can relate to. 
With this one, the inspiration was a bit more specific and personal, as M.Cat very recently was physically assaulted by someone who claimed to truly care for her.

"I vowed to not be silent about this, for silence perpetuates violence - silence kills. I am one of the lucky ones - so to speak - for I am alive, I am safe, I am well resourced with friends, therapists, practitioners, and I have artistic outlets for processing the trauma I am continuing to bear- namely telling my story through this mix."
This mix flutters and wavers between infatuation and being completely terrified, confusion and clarity, loneliness and self determination. 
"It was a mess, I was a mess, and that’s ok; being messy is ok. I’m going to use this platform to say that no one should ever treat anyone the way that I have been treated, no one should be so deceitful and manipulative that they leave murky waters of disempowerment in their wake. I’ve had my dignity crushed, my bones broken, and my heart shattered to pieces. I'm putting my pieces back together, in a new and beautiful way. To all of those who have hurt me: I am stronger in spite of you."

We know this story is not unique, this sort of thing is all too common. To those who are hurting please seek help. We encourage you all to courageously step forward into a new path, one asserted boundary at a time.

HIGH LIGHT / LOW END.. It's really been a highlight summer of playing low end bass centric music.. For my friends who told me to just SEND IT, this mix is here because of you. I feel like I really hit my stride this summer with being given the opportunities to present the music that I love to mix the most and am really feeling the love in the response to it. So thank you to everyone that provided those spaces, and to all those who were there to share it...

Recorded live on Jan 28, 2023 at Dolly Disco in Vancouver.  This is the first time we've played an all night B2B together and it ended up being one of most fun times either of us have had DJing.  We played 6 hours from open to close. This recording captures the arch of energy throughout the night, the spontaneity of trading 3 for 3, the imperfections/perfections of a live set and connection between dance floor and DJ. The Librarian B2B Mood Change -  All Night Long!  - Live @ Dolly Disco 01/28/23

This mix is a love story; a space romance. Inspired by the relationship of Carl Sagan and Ann Druyan and the compilation of the Voyager Golden Record. WNYC’s Radiolab did an amazing story on the whole project with a very personal interview with Ann.

“Toward the end of the summer of ‘77, NASA launched two spacecraft as part of the Voyager Interstellar Mission. On board each craft was a golden record that included, among other things, the sound of a kiss, a mother’s first words to her newborn child, music from all over the world, and greetings in 59 different languages. The spacecraft were designed to take close-up pictures of Jupiter and Saturn, then continue into the great expanse of space beyond our solar system. The records on board were meant to survive for a billion years, in the hope that some day, against enormous odds, they might cross paths with an alien civilization.” – Radiolab

After a bit of sampling I’ve chopped the interview up and spread it throughout the mix. I hope you find the story as inspiring as I have: for the human race, for our place in the universe, for all that is possible and most importantly, for love.
