Samba Pa Ti (cover)

This take dates back to somewhere around 2011-2012, if I recall correctly. Along with two friends, I rented a small recording studio where we spent the better part of a day just experimenting with the gear and getting in and out of various grooves.

These 6 minutes are probably the best thing we got out of that day. 

I remember looking at Sam when he first hit that jazz cymbal. I've never felt a stronger vibe with a musician than with that guy at that point in time.

I used a Marshall stack and a Fender tele deluxe '72 reissue. That and a maxed out Tremolo pedal, as you may have already guessed.

"La vita di un giovane, eh?"

Back in 2012, in Rome. 

I don't remember a whole lot about the trip beyond what the pictures tell me. I do remember meeting an old man on the bus. Slight limp, arched back, wise like old people usually are. 

"Folle vecchiardo", as Pindemonte would say.

This was in the thick of my depression. I was exhausted at best. 
I was also blocking the bus doors and generally being a major A-hole. 

As he was getting off, he swiftly shoved me aside. 

He briefly clutched my cheek and looked me right in the eye. With a sly grin, he told me "Ah, la vita di un giovane, eh?" 
(Roughly: "Ah, the life of a youngster, right?")

And then he was gone.

I'm honestly embarassed at how many hours I've spent covering just this one song.

This isn't the first version I've made, and it most likely won't be the last.

Catchy fucking tune, for sure.

blink-182 - Feeling This (cover)

I got in a funky mood listening to some old school bossa nova one Sunday night(go figure)

These are mostly first takes.

It's only taken me 5 years to find the right amount of reverb haha

Jazzmine

I love the pace in this song. 
The guitars in the chorus, in particular, add a sense of suspense that gets to me. Combine those with a verse that has this "dreamy, staring in the distance while on the bus"-kind of feel and you get the perfect exhortation. 

This is also a really old song. I have demos dating as far back as 2010 (20-fucking-10) containing bits and pieces. In fact, I was originally inspired by Snow Patrol's absolute fucking gem called "Signal Fire".  The suspense in that chorus combined with Lightbody's voice... 

It's not a coincidence I relied on a Fender Telecaster '72 Deluxe, Gary's main guitar at the time, for recording this piece. Though not as crisp as his, I do hear the resemblance sometimes. The solo guitar is (sound wise at any rate) similar to what I've heard them play live.

I can't deny feeling a profound sense of accomplishment, having finally found some way of paying tribute. 

After ten years, I may be able to lay this one to rest.

Chasing Lightbody

This was originally a cover of Benny blanco's Eastside. 
Somehow I can't unhear Meadows' "The only boy awake" (you know, that song from 13 Reasons Why), when I hear Eastside though.

I'm still tempted to cut out everything after 00:40, to be honest. Fell in love with the tremolo guitar. I had a strong Hallelujah (Buckley)-feel over me while I was playing.
