Arthur Brown (Abdowntown) sent me this great track with a beat and a fantastic hook and asked me if I could write lyrics to it. So within half an hour I finished the lyrics, improvised while recording, added harmonies to it and then asked Eefje to add her voice to it, and Ed to add a guitar solo at the end. Then Arthur came up with a rap he had written ....and I just mixed all these tracks together. And I love the final result. Here are their personal clouds:

First time I heard this song as rendered by The Band on "Music from Big Pink," it hit me like a hymn, and that's how I've always interpreted it. Here I've changed up the rhythm and added several keyboard and melodica tracks instead of my original guitar-picking version, but I've kept in my ending "A-men" chords.

When I realized how it was shaping up with this altered rhythm, I quickly caught the haunt of "Stand By Me." For a while I toyed then with the notion of mashing the two together in some fashion, but the project was already becoming overwrought with tracks. (Maybe someone else would like to tackle that?)

The end result here is sort of sloppy—my "ensemble" could be tighter and the harmonies could be truer—but JT convinced me that leaving as is rings more authentic and interesting. (Hope you're right, hunaja! :)

I wrote this as a tribute to the miners in the miner's strike of 84.  My dad was a miner all his working life (from age 12!) until he was invalided out with pneumoconiosis - and no compensation.  He never worked again so poverty came knocking on the door.  In South Wales the mining communities were strongly knit by history, culture and a very hard way of earning a living.  That is pretty much gone now and its death knell was under the Thatcher government with the strike in 84.  My dad died in 82 so never saw this happen. I saw the miners march back to work after a lot of suffering and then the whole industry collapse.  The economic reality anyway was that the high quality anthracite coal was too expensive to mine and could not compete with open-cast coal imported from Australia even.   So it was "gone" even though there is still plenty there.  This song is dedicated to a community that fades into memory.  Go sing the chorus in a pub somewhere! I always had a vision of a Welsh male voice choir belting this out at some big concert.  Dream on. I might do a different arrangement one day.
For those who don't know it, a "tommy box tin" was a miner's metal lunch box. It was square at one end and rounded at the other.  My dad had a rusty old tin like that.

They came together after certain members left previous projects and decided to start something new. Review: 
This is a re-release of the 1992 KTS CD entitled 'Stadiums of the Damned' A great release from the start, this unknown Label has gone KTS one better by eliminating much of the white noise, and bringing out the music a tad more to give the CD a smoother, more natural feel. The package and aesthetics are not quite as nice as the earlier release (being simply a cardboard slip case), but the sound quality improvement makes this one a winner. The above two 'grayed out' songs from the concert have yet to turn up among collectors. Of course, as with it's benefactor, the songs are all edited in and out. 
Concert Review 
Dylan delivers a knock-out performance. The gospel material is powerful and biting without a condescending edge. The older standards are performed with a new fire and passion that includes them among the best live versions to date. Dylan stumbles on the lyrics once or twice, but adds new lines as well that more than compensate. The vocals are crisp are over the top out front and in your face. The music is tight, well mixed, and well performed.
