Slip into my take on minimal.
It’s mostly modern house music, but people tell me it’s minimal techno too. I’ve called it astral:house and sideways house. It’s deep euphoric dance music, psychedelic, soul-stirring and fun. It’s lush minimal for the dance floor.  

Feel where I’m at with the opening record, then space out with an hour of vibration:appreciation, after which I mix some favourite new minimal records with ultra-special digital waves.  I remember moving to wav format way after most of my dj friends, and feeling old fashioned as I carted my vinyl to our Saturday night residency at Elsewhere Bar on the Gold Coast in the 2000s. Now mixing vinyl feels like coming home, as I don’t have to peer at a screen or get my head around a computer in order to make the mix happen.  Most of my online mixes are spontaneous curations made on Traktor using timecode vinyl & aiff files, so turntables have always been my preference. Living in Australia, shipping costs so much, so obtaining new records is a luxury indeed, especially when you have a family’s needs to consider; it feels so good though, and I love them. We live in order to experiment with crafts, and right now, this is where I am and what I do. 

The last track is a Jules David remix of a Timmus piece they called ‘Deflection Perception’. For a long while I was the only one who had it, as time flew by and the fellas kept creating new masterpieces. I dropped it at Revolver eight years ago and sparks flew.  Both Jules and Timmus have released for Motion:Theory:Music, Ben Abrahams, Jules and my electronic music label.  We’ve made parties and held residencies showcasing underground sound for over 20 years, so this label is a manifestation of that energy and we have more pieces from Jules forthcoming, all remixed by world class international artists.  The vibe in this unique piece of music is a glimpse into Jules’ soul, a beautiful peek indeed. The woman sampled speaks in an Australian accent, and talks of “coming home”. She says: ”the euphoria grew the further I walked…”

It’s no exaggeration to say that the event’s success was thanks to the beautiful groove she created. From the ambient sounds of the afternoon to the minimal atmosphere as the day turned into night, her set colored the Sunday afternoon brilliantly.

My mix starts with wholesome pieces - and I was so glad to finally include one of my favorite Howie B tracks.The music spans from back then to right now.
I'm all about generating a groove euphoria so before you know it beats begin, and I mix in some treasured new finds. I like to find that middle way, not too hard, not too light; 'touching' tracks touching each other, generating light & depths.
An hour into my set & my appreciative friends were all bopping together.
The time for quirky jazz infused minimal had come.
A spontaneous extra hour allowed me to play some of my all-side minimal dramas - storytelling through a micro-groove.
The warm heartfelt ending was a reflection of the day, as the core crew & friends, including their talented Japanese chefs, danced with grins,
all so pleased at how the day had rolled out.

私のミックスは穏やかな曲から始まり、大好きなHowie Bの曲をやっと含めることができて嬉しかったです。音楽は昔から今までを行き来します。
私は「グルーヴのユーフォリア」を生み出すことが大好きなので、気づいたらビートが始まり、最近見つけた大切な曲もmixしました。私は、強すぎず、軽すぎず、その中間を見つけるのが好きです。「触れる」曲たちがお互いに触れ合い、光と深みを生み出す瞬間です。
セットが1時間経つ頃には、友達みんなが一緒に体を揺らしていました。
ジャズを織り交ぜたミニマルな音楽の時間がやってきました。
急遽追加された1時間で、ミニマルなドラマが詰まったお気に入りの曲をいくつか披露することができました。微細なグルーヴを通じた物語の展開です。
心のこもった温かいエンディングは、その日を象徴するものでした。コアなメンバーや友達、そして才能ある日本のシェフたちも笑顔で踊り、その日がどれほど素晴らしかったかに満足していました。

Katharine has been influencing dancefloors playing sideways house in Australia since 2000, and now makes mixes for collectives around the world who appreciate her take on minimal. She has a unique way, intuitively selecting & slipping between the sublime & mysterious, raw street sounds and an irresistible jazzy micro-groove.  She smoothly threads her sessions together with a strangely satisfying & homogenous groove.

Anyway... Iulian is the man behind prestigious imprints Vade Mecum and Stomping Grounds. He is also an incredible artist, trust us, but we are too tired to list all of it here and we can't face it because there is just so much! Please have a look for yourself and educate yourselves. In this wonderful, spacious, nicely-worked venue in Bucharest he has created a magical 4.5 hours world of music to explore a lot of different styles, genres and variants of electronic music goodness. Steep yourselves in it!

As a multi-talented presence in QLD’s music landscape, Walker (Aust) resists genre-defining labels and channels the spirit of openness that was once the default in electronic music.
His artistic perspective comes from a life thoroughly lived, and his talent comes from an obsession in finding a way to express it.: “Music is always evolving, nothing stands still....And that’s exactly how I like it”.

Walker has played for iconic venues and established brands that are the backbone of the Australian dance music ecosystem. Elsewhere (Gold Coast), SASH (Brisbane & Sydney), Bodywork (Sydney), Dragonfruit (Brisbane), OneSixOne (Melbourne), Storyville (Melbourne), Method Project @ Sussudio (Sydney), Deep Cargo (Melbourne) and many more. A career that has spanned 15 years.

“My first loves will always be house, disco and techno, and that’s what I’ve become known for, but there’s much more freedom when we paint outside of the lines, and find a way to forge all of my tastes into the one cohesive groove-based set. Stripped back, groovy, quirky, vibrant, colourful attributes within the selections I make from my music collection. Most importantly, the tracks must have a feeling and some unique qualities. I am looking to deliver unique dance floor experiences. Most selections must have intention behind it. Most tracks are used for a specific purpose”.

Walker enjoys a DJ residency each month at his local social club, Elsewhere, and frequently visits other cities in Australia to keep a finger on the pulse across the Australian dance music scene. "Elsewhere is my favourite room and booth to play in the country. In my opinion, it is one of the top 5 clubs in Australia. Not many clubs sit in that top tier of club-royalty in Australia for consistent audiences, years of operation and music policy". Elsewhere is a venue that Walker considers to be the Gold Coast creative hub where “My relationships, profile and creative brain are tickled each week”. Walker holds the relationships he has with his "teachers and mentors" in very high regard, having the opportunity to work with many legends of the national scene, since starting in 2010. His close mentorship with Audun (2013-2015) and Giv (2021 to 2025) at Elsewhere has been invaluable in learning the true art of the craft.

RMNS podcast 023 - Somesan

Sohrab Karimi aka Ahu https://soundcloud.com/ahu_sohrab is a producer born in Tehran, Iran, living in Berlin nowadays. Ahu is one of the few artists who prefer to adopt low profile, with little to almost no information about him, beside his music.

Ahu’s signature sound is almost impossible to capture into words: introspective blue, sometimes with a Giegling feeling, other times with deep & dubby references to the minimal house scene, yet always authentic and promiscuous.

Little do we know about https://soundcloud.com/shahr-farang nor https://soundcloud.com/kolonygorky, Ahu’s record labels and homes for much of his releases. The labels reflect his vision about the electronic music, with ambient soundscapes, experimental concepts and sometimes dancefloor oriented cuts.

Somewhere in 2017 Ahu accepted our invitation to contribute to the Introspections series with a mix built with his own productions. To this date, it remanis one of the most beautiful mixes we’ve ever hosted.

Those who crave nourishing sonic sessions have followed Katharine’s journey along the Australian East Coast alongside her musical partner Ben Abrahams for over two decades as they’ve influenced the scene with their exciting taste & consistent delivery of stimulating underground house & techno, in clubs & outdoors. Known for 'that sound', they uncompromisingly brought West Coast house to the Australian underground scene.

Together they created ‘Strange Brew’, an all ages acid-house vinyl party at the Billinudgel Pub, Byron Bay, & for their first gatherings there, the infamous 'Shed' was built;  revelling in the Outback for sunset was deliciously surreal, dancing to stripped back house grooves amongst the gum trees. 

They ran eight extremely memorable years of Saturday nights at Elsewhere Bar on the Gold Coast. Katharine played psychedelic house before Ben's killer 5 hour sets, then both joined together for the heaving sweaty early morning hours.  Elsewhere won Best Music for a Club in Australia at the Sydney Bar Music Awards at that time. All vinyl back then.

Katharine had the first of her two children before returning to Melbourne and putting on high-vibe parties at the infamous Killing Time Bar & My Aeon,  always with a tight crew of Australia’s best underground djs.  

Katharine made mixes for Art-E Romania and the Microtechno Podcast series 10 years ago, having long been recognised for her way with intricate sounds, particularly with Romanian collectives and lovers of micro-house &  minimal.  She appreciates music which alludes to the transcendent - both gently & powerfully.  As an undeniably charged up being she just keeps on lovingly creating fresh soundtracks for her friends’ lives. Last year she made 21 mixes for amazing collectives around the world, including Half is Enough Romania's Strangers in the Night: each session is an experience. 

Her unique way elevates and deeply satisfies at both sunset & sunrise, and she has played magical closing sets out in the forest, most recently for the Comfort Zone crew on their final day on the main stage by the creek.
