Beastie Boys vs Aerosmith & Run DMC - Sleepwalk Til Brooklyn (DJ J - Brew)

Kate Norris( a wonderful Bristol based singer and songwriter) wrote this song for the Bristol Rio Project several years ago. Lucas Freixo Pinheiro(Rio De Janeiro singer and band leader)was inspired by Kate's song and re recorded it, giving it his own unique flavour. He sent the files back to  Bristol where I added guitar and bass.

01 - All The Time

Lucas Freixo Pinheiro was the last Carioca (Rio resident) to join the project. We met in a cafe in Lapa (Rio's musical bohemian quarter) and instantly bonded. He wrote this track in response to the human rights violations in the preparation to the world cup and the olympics in Rio. Nyl de Sousa responds to the song by rapping about the political climate in Rio. 
Josh Tucker and I then recorded Joe Gaywood on  drums and Radek on bass. I also overdubbed guitar and fx. The second part of the song has Theo Part( Bristol)  rapping in response to Lucas and Nyl.

06 - Joga Brasil

Kate Norris wrote this track in response to the human rights violations that were occurring in the build up to the world cup and the olympics in Rio. Thousands of people were forcibly removed from their homes if they happened to be in a part of the city that was  up for development.
A huge wall was built from the airport to stop tourists seeing the favelas, the excuse for the wall: to help the poor people have less noise pollution(??).
Kate wrote this brilliant and passionate protest song and i added guitar and bass.

Game over

I worked with Jrae Davies several years ago helping him with bass guitar and lyrics. He wrote the lyrics to 'stop spinning' and came up with the vocal melody and guitar of the original recording. I immediately thought it was very catchy and had a real tenderness to it. After i'd got  Thais Rodrigues recorded in Rio (doing an acapella imitation of a samba band) i wondered how it might sound adding Jrae's song with her vocals. When i finally got round to it 3 years later after much work contacting all the young people and producing the majority of the CD, i asked Jrae if he'd like to sing it but he declined as he was very busy, though he was happy for it to be used. Instead i used Kevin McKechnie (who features on 'Fallen') who always loved Jrae's vocal line. I really feel Kevin captured the spirit in this true Bristol Rio collaborative song.

This started as something a bit silly, and an inordinate amount of work.  Then it turned out I couldn't sing this how I wanted it.  Katie offered to record some vocals for me and, frankly, absolutely smashed it take this from "a bit silly" to something really good.

So good I spent a lot longer mixing and mastering this than I normally do to make it as good as possibly could.  I really hope you enjoy it and it makes you as happy as it does me!
