RZA – Wu Leader. Tyler – OF Leader. Qaz – ESX Leader.

During 2009 three electronic producers (James Hewson, Hayden Quinn and Jon Meyers) decided they wanted to make hip hop beats. Not knowing any rappers, they chose to start laying down lyrics themselves. They recruited 2 more friends (Ross MacAndrews and Marcus Schmidt) and called themselves ESX. The name was paying homage to the first studio they worked in residing on Essex Street, West Footscray.

For 2010 "ESX" chose to accept the self-set challenge of releasing an EP every month to develop their lyrical skills. This proved to be quite a difficult task demanding time like an additional job outside of the hours of the members current jobs. 2010 also saw new members join, alias’ change, feature guests star, members go traveling and others move away permanently.

The constant releases of ESX and Friends opened up an opportunity to merge fan bases and maximize promotion with an unofficial label to post all releases through called The Essex Collective.

2011 saw members working on solo projects and refining their style. Jon is working on a debut release titled IamQaz and an album titled "Synthesized" under the alias two-hatz.
