The Getup are more than your average Hammond Funk outfit and this track proves it. A bubbling bass line kicks the track into a killer up tempo funk groove, having you reaching for the volume knob to crank it up as the first verse bursts out.  The track takes on a whole new dimension as the chorus reveals a four-on-the-floor solid dance groove, with Jamiroqui-esque tasty chord changes, and then the horns stab us back into the next verse.  A percussive, reverberant Hammond solo takes us into a drum break that is DJ and sampler's heaven, before the tunes rounds out with a double chorus and ends on more punchy stabs……. a midtempo vocal workout showcasing the sheer musicality of the band…….funk of the highest order!

This is one heavy slab of dirty funk.

The a-side is an absolute BRASS monster of a track titled "Harrow."  A cut that gallops from the first hits of the snare drum to the blaring sounds of horns, ultimately making our aural universe a better place.  The b-side, titled "Nautilus (Hijacked)," is an instrumental cover of sorts, containing recreated hooks from "Nautilus" (Bob James) and "Hijack" (Enoch Light), which were famously sampled by Slick Rick (Children's Story) and The Beatnuts (Watch Out Now) among others.

Nautilus (Hijacked)

Brooklyn's Breakdown Brass dropped yet another killer 45! They've unleashed an original juggernaut entitled "Harrow", a follow-up to their smash debut 45 "Monmouth b/w Next Episode" (Kept Records) and sophomore 45 "The Horseman b/w Mary Jane" (Mixto Music). Driving, dirty horns are punctuated by intense trombone and baritone sax solos - prepare your stank face.

The B-side "Nautilus (Hijacked)" is a dance-floor burner that pays homage to Bob James, whose track Nautilus has been heavily sampled by Slick Rick, Eric B & Rakim, Run-DMC, A Tribe Called Quest, Onyx, Wu Tang Clan, Big L, Pete Rock and about 300 others. Throw in some Herbie Mann/Beatnuts and you got yourself a hit!

The members of Breakdown Brass stay busy - touring and recording with Ikebe Shakedown, Antibalas, Lee Fields, Sharon Jones, Charles Bradley, Monophonics and many others. Led by Nadav Nirenberg on trombone, their unique combination of heavy Afro-Funk with the sizzle of Balkan Brass has caught the eye of Gilles Peterson, NPR, BBC and more.

"Borneo fits into the category of what I call "super jazz", ie: Jazz that is great for everyone and every "body". It's taken from Cal Tjader's early 60's LP; 'Several Shades Of Jade' on Verve. The back of the jacket states: "The sound and feeling of the music of the Orient combine with the freedom of American Jazz"  and I featured it on my 'Funk The World 13' mix for Fort Knox Five. This edit (really a remix, but the terminology has changed lately) is part of a new series I'll be doing called "G got the Jazz"; a result of people really yearning to hear & dance to some different & amazing sounds. There is a TONNE of awesome, potentially danceable Jazz music that can really keep the party going IF given the right treatment (drums & sub bass in this instance). He hails from Japan. He began his music career as a DJ since 1994 and started Beat Making in 1999.

His style is that classic boom bap to make you shake your ass on the dancefloor. He started his own label KZRECORD in 2005 and released a number of 12"s cutting and pasting classic hip hop vocals over his own beats and mix with a stunning mix of soul, funk, disco, hip hop and more.
