Young songwriter Marcus King’s debut album, Soul Insight, which arrives on October 30 via Evil Teen Records, displays his stunning command of rock, blues, psychedelia, funk, soul and improvisation — all with a distinctly Southern musical accent. It also brings the 19-year-old a step closer to his musical destiny.

Call him the next Duane Allman or Jimi Hendrix, but whatever you do, don’t call Marcus King a child prodigy. Sure, the 19-year-old guitar shredder’s talent shimmers with the same resonance as his heroes, but he’s been wielding an axe since he learned to talk - he started playing when he was 2. Marcus was born into music, gifted with steel-string DNA and two generations of men before him who nurtured the boy’s musical nature.

Marcus still continues to grow, to experiment, to share his passions. He’s an engaged and engaging young man with a lifetime of experience, still coming into his own, still carrying his guitar with him, and promising us all a promising future.

This venue is one of a kind. Built into the side of a sand dune type of hill with the lake as the back drop. The beach is about 12 paces from the back stage. The water was cold, clear, and refreshing. The vibe was positive and I was happy to be alive.

To thank you all for your support and excitement about my new album and tour, I'd like to share a live recording of "I Don't Want Anything To Change." This duet with my friend Maia Sharp, one of the song's co-writers (as well as a wonderful singer/musician/producer) was from our concert in Peoria, IL on May 4th, 2009. Maia has opened a lot of my shows and we've sung on each others' last two records, including her great backing vocals on my new one, Slipstream. Hope you enjoy it and I look forward to seeing you out on the road!
