Fondé à Montréal en 2014, Chabanel est un duo de pop expérimentale composé de Gabriel Sasseville-Jolicoeur (basse préparée et synthétiseurs) et Jordan Torres Bussière (voix, boucles et traitements électroniques). Un EP éponyme est paru au printemps 2017, suivi de ''Play Queue'' en mai 2018. Un album complet est en cours de production, prévu pour l'hiver 2020.

Chabanel confectionne des pièces conflictuelles et inconfortables, émergeant de façon liminale  hors de bourdons instransigeants et de paysages sonores nourris d’hyper-réalité. Jouant librement avec les codes de la musique industrielle et bruitiste, Chabanel célèbre la résistance face au Spectacle et au capitalisme, tout en questionnant les notions de hiérarchie et les contradictions de la masculinité.

Chabanel crafts conflictual and uncomfortable pieces of music that emerge in a liminal way from harsh drones and soundscapes rooted in hyper-reality. Playing freely with the canons of industrial and noise music, Chabanel celebrates resistance against the spectacle and capitalism, while questioning the notions of hierarchy and the contradictions of masculinity.

Northern Spy is a Brooklyn-based independent record label formed by former staff of the legendary ESP-Disk’ imprint. As an artist-run label, Northern Spy shines the light on musicians who are tenacious, forward-thinking and making devil-be-damned fine music, while finding substance in the disparate worlds of free improvisation and popular music.
