해준이 수사하는 질곡동 살인사건의 유력한 용의자.
불량청소년 출신으로 소년원에서 지내던 시절의 기억 때문에 감옥을 죽음보다도 기피한다. 화려한 여성 편력과 산발적인 자살 충동을 동시에 갖고 있는 매우 불안정한 인물. 박찬욱 감독은 해준과 서래의 서사를 미리 보여주는 축소판과 같은 인물로 의도했다고 한다. 오가인을 잊지 못하고 그녀에게 집착하는 것은 해준과 유사하지만, 각종 범죄행적들이나 자살행위와 같은 어두운 면들은 서래와도 흡사하다.

“나 너 때문에 고생 깨나 했지만 사실 너 아니었으면 내 인생 공허했다, 요렇게 좀 전해 주세요.“
