Q. How would you describe yourself?
A. A quiet dancer who uses music to connect with others. 

Q. How long have you been a part of the NY music scene? 
A. About 12 years as a dancer but 6 years as a dj. (I was a curious kid who stayed in the street)

Q. Tell us a little bit about this mix.
A. This mix is a little rude, sticky but sweet. I wanted to pull elements from my queer haitian identity and experiences as an NYC native. A lot of the tracks selected are from DJs and artists I look up to. The grooves, syncopation and cuts I mix are to paint a picture of it being 2am in the club, you are pumping & dancing so hard that you are sweating your hair and clothes out but you can’t stop because the music feels too good. In my own way if I was old enough to play at sound factory or the tunnel, this is what it would sound like!

For 135th entry in the Honcho Podcast Series, we welcome @ketia! ketia is an up-to-no-good self-assigned cyborg, has a keen ear for new and exciting music, alongside a curious, invested approach to community building within the Lisbon and Berlin club scene. Known for their infamous intimate invite-only kit ket events in Lisbon and one of the glitches behind the label and collective, 'kaptcha'. In Berlin, where they reside, they’re deep and sweetly entangled with the modern rituals happening at Berlin’s new ambient listening bar kwia – ketia helps hold space for a different way of connecting through high fidelity sound and intimacy outside of the usual club dynamics.

For the 136th entry in the Honcho Podcast Series, we welcome @alana_maenad! maenad is musician and multimedia artist based in Brooklyn. Training originally as a classical singer, she found a home in the queer club scene where a strong sense of community and love has inspired her to infuse her djing with emotional vocal tracks and warm sentimental sounds. She seeks constantly to share euphoria found only on the dance floor and to uplift and celebrate trans people. 

This mix is a love letter to Honcho, to Jellyfish, to Mass - to Pittsburgh. I feel so lucky to have gotten my start in that scene, where so many fantastic musicians play with wild abandon; they have inspired me to play exactly what my heart calls for in every moment. I wanted this to be a joyful invitation to dance with me. House and disco classics interweave with groovy, funky newer selections to project love and sunshine. FINNEST music presents, Around the World, a series of compilations where it shows the talent of many artists from different countries, in its first release, Panama Gems selected by Sergio Bennett and mixed by the veteran Panamanian artist Charles Bell. In the first place, Our First Time' by Glenn Gonzalez, one of the most important electronic music producers in Panama, owner of the 'Midnight Movement' label, first class deep house with an increasing progressive sound and a mix sublime, the bassline and the kick drive the track while the pads and melodies are in charge of telling the story, fantastic. As the second cut, 'Room 1993' by Rick González, a Panamanian artist who makes his world debut as a producer with FINNEST with this brutal track full of groove, with a vocal and some melodic stabs that will hymnotize you, has a sound of the 2000s fascinating, we love it too much. It is the turn of the residents, the Venezuelan DartZero75 based in Panama and a fundamental pillar of the nights on Selina's rooftop in the heart of Casco Antiguo, along with his partner Mōiqe bring us, 'Tribal Analog' a track with Afro House sounds very fresh with the essence of her country in the rhythmic base and piano melodies that transcend beyond the human ear, the drop is perfect to explode the dance floor. Very cool! The fourth track comes from one of the house artists, and an important part of the scene in the country, Gerard R, also a Venezuelan living in Panama already signed to our sister label Yet Records, presents us with 'Bam Bam', a minimal deep cut with a spectacular groove and a solid base that makes clubs with great sound equipment tremble from their foundations, the vocal stabs finish completing this great work, nice. As fifth cut, 'Hip Hip Oh' by the Colombians 'Bryan Kush' and 'Nicholls (Col)' both based in Panama, the latter being responsible for the management of the famous promoter 'Booth' in the country. With minimal sound we can fly through the effects that the guys have used on the track, the base sounds very forceful and the vocal with hip hop nuances just drives us crazy, the scratch effect is very original and different from the usual, Bravo! The last cut of the compilation is by an artist from the interior, 'Nislo Rudas' born in Panama and with a notable international career, he delights us with 'Voices', the most minimal track of the release, with nuances of the Romanian sound that makes us immerse ourselves in an unprecedented melodic atmosphere, the crunchy background is essential and the vocals give it the necessary stop to be able to explode again, the low frequencies are in their precise place and everything sounds beautiful. Brilliant. To finish we can enjoy a Dj Mix by Charles Bell, one of the best curators in the country and with the greatest weight in the scene, if you want to consolidate yourself in the city, you must have his blessing hehehe, great job friend!

Keenan Orr has been DJing in Washington DC’s underground dance parties and clubs in the ’90s. He has also landed residencies at a number of clubs around the city, including Marvin and Eighteenth Street Lounge. Over the past few years, the Washington DC native has performed for promoters across the United States, Canada and Mexico, as well as overseas, in Berlin, London and Reykjavik. Keenan, a former host on XM Satellite Radio, has also been invited to perform on Red Bull Radio, Rinse Radio, and The Lot Radio. During the pandemic, Keenan started a mix series, Alphabet Soup, highlighting his expansive knowledge in different genres of music. Known for his technical mixing and diverse musical selection, Orr makes a lasting impression on all that have experienced his sets.
