Years of sweating in garage bands evidently prepared the Lipsky brothers to break boundaries in commercial club culture with a sound that somehow evokes the essence of psych-rock while never sounding out of place alongside certified technoid bangers.

Their musical breadth as producers speaks to their talent as DJs, with a deep passion for record digging that again conveys very specific sensibilities – a love for the exotic, the yearning for transcendence, as well as the rough rebellious energy of punk. They produce dance music from the margins, full of with narrative, melody, and drama. It’s intense, in a good way.* 

Their affiliations to broad-spectrum labels like Multi Culti, Disco Halal and Correspondant might paint some picture of their range, and their stellar remixes for artists like Nicola Cruz, Adam Port, Autarkic and Polo & Pan may have earned them lots of plays,  but their debut LP ‘Sorry, We Did Something Wrong’ is undoubtedly their most ambitious and elaborate statement to date. Drenched in their influences, rich in collabs with a range of artists like Sepultura’s Igor Cavalera and C.A.R., the record is at once ambitious and, as the title suggests, apologetic. Their capacity for embracing these polarities, a radical boldness tempered by self-consciousness, it may divide the audience, but it shows unmistakable personality.

Simple Symmetry returnes to Multi Culti with an epic, mournful EP called “Problem,” featuring a huge remix by long-time compatriots Red Axes. Another huge edit for CULTED is on deck, as well as a peak-time rework of Drugface, following up on their massive mix of ‘In the Clouds.’

Steve KIW has been DJing since the late 1980s and has amassed a collection of some 30,000 records and is the host of LMNOP-KIW (geddit?) every Thursday, 5pm-8pm UK time.  For the past 10 years or more he has been one half, third and quarter of BAOL.

Steve cut his DJing teeth playing in the clubs and bars of north London in the early 90s before settling in at the legendary Enigma parties, playing for them at the weekly sessions at Babushka, and their parties at Hanover Grand, The Cross and Ministry of Sound. Towards the end of the 90s Steve diversified and started to include disco, soul and funk in his sets and soon specialised in playing a wide mix of music at each gig. His refusing to be pigeon holed into one style or tempo led to his 'Keeping It Wheel' nights, hence the KIW name. Steve joined PushFM in 2005 before moving to Brighton where he spins most weekends; he has a residency at The Fishbowl pub playing six hour sets joining the dots from the 50s to the present day. Recent gigs have seen Steve play alongside Greg Wilson, Norman Jay, Danny Rampling, Gilles Peterson, Jason Boardman and any number of folk from the resurgent Balearic axis; Steve played for London's legendary promoters GOOD TIMES on New Years Eve and at the long-running Da Doo Ron Ron 60s pop night, the GO BANG parties in Brighton, Nottingham's Soul Buggin and Norwich's Beatfix.

In 2020, the Brighton based duo launched Higher Love Recordings with the intention of releasing the sunset to sunrise electronic music they love. In the 21st Century, as well it should be, this Balearic beat business is a global affair. The music released thus far has travelled from Poland, Mexico City, Santa Fe, Daytona Beach, LA, Rome, Stockholm, Oslo, London, Manchester, Nottingham, Leeds, Brighton and of course Ibiza. Producers featured include dance music royalty Ron Basejam, Justin Robertson, Sean Johnston, and Rolo McGinty as well as rising stars Jazxing, Joe Morris, Gold Suite, James Bright, and Residentes Balearicos.

Ouzo Bazooka, formed in Tel Aviv, released their debut album in 2014. Since then they have gone on to release two other albums, have toured extensively around Israel and Europe, and have gained considerable critique and following. With renowned singer-songwriter, Uri Brauner Kinrot leading the band, Ouzo Bazooka's sound is a unique concoction of east meets west. Their music combines an exotic Middle-Eastern feel with psychedelic surf rock. The band are currently working on new material and are heading off to Europe again this summer to perform all over the continent.
