Chicago-based @god-particle-vinyl label head @sassmouth played this DJ set in Chicago on 12/3/22 as a part of our 'Mike Parker / Secret Warehouse Location' event. She took the decks from 1-2:30am, delivering a set of techno cuts which spanned dub, minimal, acid, and experimental styles, shifting seamlessly between records and CDJs throughout.

Rebecca Goldberg is a producer, live performer, DJ and graphic designer from Detroit. Since her debut EP release, 313 Acid Queen, she has been affiliated with the multidisciplinary arts collective, Detroit Underground. Rebecca is a seasoned radio DJ having mixed for FM and internet-radio shows hosted across the globe.

Goldberg has self-released music and multimedia projects ranging from Detroit techno to experimental/avant-garde electronic music. She tours internationally as a DJ and live performer and has been featured at notable events from Movement Electronic Music Festival to Tresor in Berlin. Unconfined by genre, Rebecca has written original scores for classic films, “Le Voyage Dans La Lune” and “Gojira,” which included live performances at Silencio, David Lynch’s members-only club in Paris, and Armageddon Beachparty in Detroit.

In 2022 the New BBC Radiophonic Workshop released a selection of field recordings she took throughout her native Michigan for their Travel Agency project. For her live performance she focuses on sound design and the unpredictable capabilities of working with electronic instruments. In early 2023 she produced a live show called Upphljómun to showcase live performances from herself and Icelandic electronic artists during the Reykjavik Winter Lights Festival. Her most recent EP on Detroit Underground, TROIS CENT TROIS, was featured on Bandcamp’s “New and Notable” releases and is available to order worldwide. A journey. That’s how best to describe the story of ace DJ and https://soundcloud.com/vaultwax boss https://soundcloud.com/beyun303. Her bio spans four countries in three different continents, and a family history tying her to even more diverse locales. A true globetrotting citizen of the world, she has taken in influences from a large variety of sources to inform her wide-ranging musical taste. It’s hardly a coincidence she has dropped anchor at the port of Rotterdam, a place which is defined by its diversity and by welcoming travelers from all over the world. 

A journey is also the best way to describe her addition to our podcast series. A truly eclectic mix of genres, moods and moments, we’re taking from energetic breaks and techno thumping, with hints of rave-synths, acid-basslines and plenty of percussion sprinkled in for good measure. And then, just as you think you’ve figured out what Beyun’s all about in this set, she mixes things up. We won’t spoil the ending, so you’ll just have to wait and hear what’s in store (or skip through, if you’re a party pooper).

There are few musicians who manage to explore the convergence between techno and experimental as successfully as David Letellier.
Known as Kangding Ray, he has been producing for almost a decade, releasing his music exclusively on Raster-Noton and Stroboscopic Artefacts.
The aesthetic domains of these two labels epitomizes Kangding Ray’s complex sound—it’s an aesthetic that tests boundaries, evolving tirelessly in its exploration of texture, rhythm, and sound design.
Letellier’s foundations in rock and musique concrete give his music a vitality and uniqueness that has won fans the world over, from discerning avant-garde–electronica listeners, all the way to devoted clubbers.
KR has also been known for remixing artists such as Battles on Warp, Ben Frost on Mute, or Inigo Kennedy on Token.
Those who have been following Letellier since his debut album, 2006’s Stabil, will recognize not only his meticulous and constantly developing approach to sound design, but also the conceptual gravity behind his releases.
Through a string of recent EP’s and albums, culminating with the critically acclaimed “Solens Arc”, KR showed his ability to keep his artistic approach while delivering direct and powerful club-leaning tracks and darkly cinematic soundscapes. On 2015’s “Cory Arcane”, he pushed the limits of his sound even further, relinquishing standard rhythmic structures and conventional tonal models, he delivered what is perhaps his most sophisticated release yet; a raw and visceral universe, allowing a more fluid dialogue between soul and machines.
The forthcoming “HYPER OPAL MANTIS” for Stroboscopic Artefacts opens a new era for Kangding Ray, where he will explore the tension between the natural and artificial, the body and mind, which are central themes in electronic music in general, and Techno in particular. The means of creation, focused around technology and interactions with machines, contrast with the emotional response to sound, the mystical ritual of collective dancing, and the ethos of liberation and tolerance embedded in the culture it has produced.
As he describes it himself in a recent interview : “I’ve been evolving since a couple of years at the outer fringes of the club culture, where it overlaps with different experimental and avant-garde genres. While i entend to continue to explore that zone as a free maverick, i also wanted to give something back to the scene, something strong, beautiful and functional at the same time, while retaining enough personality to be exciting.”
