These tracks are out-takes from my first alum Seven Lies. Those familiar with my music will know that I love a coda. A coda is a passage at the end of a piece of music that brings it to a conclusion. I often use a coda as a way of framing the piece in a slightly different context than it would otherwise end. Like a musical aftertaste. When I was working on Seven Lies I made codas for several tracks but I was never completely happy with these two so they didn't make it on to the album.

As I work on my second album I have been looking back at the process I went through for my first alum and remembered these outtakes. They're not so bad after all. Perhaps they are worth airing to the world. I hope you enjoy them, or at least find them an interesting insight into the workings behind the music.

PAN welcomes back Objekt for Cocoon Crush, his first LP since 2014’s Flatland. Over the past four years Objekt has continued to challenge conventions with his club output (the Objekt #4 single release and the Kern Vol. 3 mix CD for Tresor), while maintaining his reputation as a DJ who deploys impeccable technical finesse in crafting elaborate narratives from a diverse and challenging palette of electronic music.

Written between 2014 and 2018 in Berlin and on the road, Cocoon Crush once again sees the producer jettisoning the functional requirements of the dancefloor. Marking a further evolution from the youthful exuberance of Flatland, Cocoon Crush explores a more introspective side, with themes of human interaction resonating throughout the record as it ruminates on a spectrum of complex moods rooted in 4 years of sometimes turbulent personal experience.

Cocoon Crush represents an aesthetic departure from Flatland’s largely synthetic tonality, drawing from organic source material and natural textures to illustrate perplexing and unfamiliar sceneries in photorealistic detail. In Cocoon Crush, Objekt diverges further still from his musical influences to craft the purest manifestation of his own musical personality to date: an intriguing and enigmatic album whose reference points are hard to pin down, in which ghostly synth passages weave through mind-bending, weighty drums, and ASMR-triggering foley collages scrape and sparkle. Through meticulous sculpting, Objekt traces a rich and impressionistic journey through claustrophobia, hope, guilt, anxiety and joy, nested in layers of sonic detail which reward with every listen.

The album is mastered by Rashad Becker, featuring photography by Kasia Zacharko, and layout by Bill Kouligas.

The enigmatic producer Brainwaltzera, who has released records at a rate of knots since debuting in 2016, takes a moment to survey their accomplishments. On this new remix EP we find five Brainwaltzera favourites from down the years reworked by a selection of the most vaunted names in the scene.

Some of the producers go toe-to-toe with Brainwaltzera’s zany, urgent originals. Recent Whities producer JASSS’ version of ‘Ten Ton Fenix’ matches the Outdives EP jam for intensity, swelling from a frosty opening of distant synth pads and whip-crack drums into a breakbeat IDM jam that holds euphoria in one hand and introspection in the other. Of similar hue and heft is the ΠΕΡΑ ΣΤΑ ΟΡΗ flip of ‘Dropp On Gminor’.

Things stretch out a little as Brainwaltzera Remixed progresses. D’Arcangelo spins out The Kids Are AI jam ‘Maramu’ into a track which, in its balance of squiggly acid tones and skippy drum breaks, resembles the most lighthearted sections of Squarepusher’s recent output. 96 Back’s take on ‘Nessova’ is not dissimilar, although there is a bit more of a seasick flavour to this joint. And Brainwaltzera Remixed closes out with its most cautious track - Solid Blake’s steady, eerie remix of ‘Mixolydian Transition 18’, a centrepiece from Brainwaltzera’s Poly-Ana LP.

Brainwaltzera Remixed finds each contributing artist building from the chaotic energy of the enchanting source material.
