Continuing the theme of community collaboration sparked by Hodge and Simo Cell’s recent 12”, Livity Sound presents the first joint works by Azu Tiwaline and Al Wootton. While they come from distinct settings (Azu in the Tunisian desert, Al in London’s urban sprawl), their music shares a similar affinity for intricate percussion and dub-informed space.
The four tracks on LIVITY052 deal in a variety of rhythms and tempos, veering from the propulsive intensity of ‘Blue Dub’ to the sparse, skipping 2-step framework of ‘Light Transmission’. Azu and Al’s refined, detailed approach blurs the lines between electronic sound design and earthy sonics, resulting in dynamic drum tracks loaded with weighty atmospherics and unrelenting tension.

“Durandal's 'Rewind' is a production that evolves around the motion of several low pitched frequency oscillators; all flowing within their individual trajectories of madness. A vocal expresses the craze of Durandal's cut appears several times, adding flavour to the sub-heavy lower region alongside the lively samples of crowds and events. 

"Slowly, the tables turn as both low and mid-range patterns add a rough twist to the incoming second drop, with octave changes and different hi-hat arrangements that call for the reload. The Utah-based producer has delivered an original tune worthy of a spin, a rewind and listing in any of your future track lists…”

“Phossa‘s been on our radar for a while now, with his futuristic take on the 140bpm sound – a futuristic effort that still evokes the traditional beats, bass and space approach we love. He’s been raising profiles with last month’s Buried EP on White Peach (alongside frequent collaborator Glume) and has seen label support from a roster of imprints we’ve worked with and are fans of: Subaltern, Instigate and Gradient Audio. His FKOF debut brings four epic cuts to our catalogue, alongside a collab with Portuguese producer 3WA.

"We launch FKOFd037 with Null, full of exquisite sampling and synth techniques, with the rest of the audial spectrum washing over you before the track takes an about-turn for the epic second drop. The aptly-titled Drones, which is as addictive as the Thelem version from 2013, continues the adventure as track two. Rolling low end, crisp percussives and the synths that’ll worm their way into your brain for the repeat listen. The third track is a joint effort, produced by (another artist new to the FKOF family) 3WA and Phossa. Heed is full of the deep and meditative vibes you’ll expect from a FKOFd release.
