Lost Connection Remixes: Long Island Sound’s debut album gets fresh treatment from some of the most exciting producers in electronic music. Cromby, Mor Elian, James Shinra and Benjamin Damage feature on Long Island Sound’s Signs of Space imprint.

The tracks on Lost Connection Remixes are stunning reinterpretations of three tracks from Lost Connection, the debut LP from Irish duo Long Island Sound. In 2022 the Dublin-based pair released their first full-length, Lost Connection, which received a stellar review from Resident Advisor, describing it as ‘Glorious, heart-tugging sunset techno’.

For Lost Connection Remixes, the duo have called upon a heavy roster to reimagine their cross-pollination of house, techno and trance-influenced sounds. The EP epitomizes the label’s diverse and expansive sound, reimagining the Dublin duo’s 2022 album in a whole new light.

Fellow Irishman Cromby opens the EP with his rolling and uplifting remix of Power. The track utilizes intricate percussion work and a chunky bassline on top of the original’s celestial pads and vocals, driving the track in a fresh direction.

Power also sees a remix from James Shinra. In his signature and inimitable style, Shinra reinterprets the track as a vast and multi-layered soundscape, creating an immersive and otherworldly atmosphere. He combines intermittent breakbeats, lush pads and complex riffs to create a euphoric, electro-leaning remix.

Mor Elian ups the pace and intensity of the EP with her remix of Dusk. Combining enormous low-end rumbles and syncopated percussion patterns with blissful pads and celestial choirs, Mor’s remix perfectly toes the line between tough and tender.

Benjamin Damage closes the EP with two propulsive techno interpretations of the 2022 album opener, Ataria. Gated vocals, rhythmic pads and flanging high-end percussion are used to build tension, culminating in moments of high-energy dance floor rapture. Damage’s Dub remix ditches the pads and vocals, placing the percussive elements center-stage, providing a stripped-back techno tool.

Lost Connection Remixes is due for full release on April 27th.

Dublin-born and bred Long Island Sound are known for their euphoric-yet-introspective take on electronic music, toeing the line between big emotion and big-room energy. Their music has been featured on Mixmag, DJ Mag and Resident Advisor, as well as Bicep’s mix series and Spotify playlist. Following the success of their debut LP and a sold-out launch party in Dublin’s Tengu, in 2022 the pair embarked on their Summer Irish festival tour, culminating in a standout set at All Together Now.

The steadily brilliant French producer Nathan Melja - who's made the rounds between choice outlets over the past half decade, from Mister Saturday Nights to Antinote, via Ninja Tune offshoot Technicolour and Opal Tapes, seems to have learnt Bruce Lee's lesson by heart, and his seamlessly fluid, no-nonsense debut foray on KOC is here to potently cement his status as one of Europe's number one club trailblazers, and one that knows all too well how to turn any dancefloor into an infinity pool of pure liquid euphoria.

Drawing its name from the physiological and psychological process that results in a confusion of one's sensory perceptions, 'Synesthesia' is indeed the kind of club single that shall trigger off massive reaction amongst right-minded bipeds and chromakey house suckers. Straightforward club business done right, Melja's original is a vivid kaleidoscope of skittish drums, swampy bass stabs and a well-rounded, supremely curvy synthwork, tailored to take ravers on a flash journey through space and time without the help of Richard Branson or Elon Tusk (pun intended).

Called in on remix duty, TTT affiliate and Incienso co-founder Anthony Naples delivers a more fragmented and ambientish variation, though functional and club-ready in its own right. Brushing even wider verbed-out pad tapestries for your brain to wander in, the track expands to deeper organic horizons with a field-depth that can not but recall that of the KLF and Bochum Welt's emotional soundscaping. Meanwhile, Karenn half Pariah takes care of whelming us deep into more techno-friendly terrains, true to his ever masterly touch for epic buildups and multi-level textural innovation, bringing up the acidic phlegm of Melja's original as he treats us to a carefully orchestrated ballet of synthetic whorls, contemplative chords and propulsive drum programming.

The titletrack means anticipation in German and this track could well be a warm-up for a future project between the two individual artists. But even if not, it still is a fantastic track for any party due to its hypnotic micro-melody created by the Star-Wars-like notes and the synths that follows a beat made to dance.

At first, “Racun” seems to be a logical track that sounds dark and looks simple yet is not, having a complex architecture with many layers added gradually, giving the track colours and senses and creating in the end a beautiful state-of-mind, revealing the masterfull skills of an experienced artist.
