The anonymous and up-and-coming Weiss returns for the release of the highly anticipated ‘Weiss City Vol 2’.

Bursting onto the scene earlier this year, the illusive Weiss has already captured the imagination of producers, press and the public alike with his inspiring take on old school house. The first in this series of EPs, ‘Weiss City Vol 1’, garnered support from the likes of Shadow Child, Ninetoes, Pleasurekraft, Noir, Bontan, Groove Armada and more, with ‘My Sister’ gaining airplay on B-Traits’ Radio 1 show and successfully taking over the Beatport deep house chart at No.3. On the next Light my Fire release, ‘Try’, Borka & The Gang serve up three thunderous tech house tracks that marry grooving garage drums, funky bass-lines and areal synths. Little is known about the mysterious Borka and his gang as they prefer to let their productions speak for themselves, yet their maiden release hints at some serious studio knowledge. Title track ‘Try’ is a straight up party bomb, consisting of cheerful key stabs and a tough, tech-driven bass-line framed by jacking percussive elements. Next up, ‘Lose Track’ seems built for a more laid-back mood as the looped vocal hook and deep sub-bass are lifted by elevating synths. Lastly, ‘Ouh’ is classic 2-step with its grooving rhythm and slightly melancholic vibe.

The Chemistry is a young French online magazine that deals with various topics, going from art to fashion and music.

On the occasion of the magazine’s second birthday the lab has decided to break out his brand new project called “LITHIUM”, which is basically a 24 tracks compilation. This can also be experienced throughout a series limited edition tapes.

This humble project mainly includes Beat & Bass music and has for main goal to reflect the image of the magazine through a selection of artists. This new recipe associate very promising young talents with producers who have already proved themselves. LITHIUM has no boundaries and is not about elitism, only dope music matters.

Dark atmosphere, aquatic tracks, jazzy tuning, furious beats… Lithium brings an assortment of tracks that includes different moods but still being part of the same musical genre. Along the listening you will clearly discover the songs complement one another. We could say that the whole team is proud of this very first compilation.

This was a really fun project to work on right the way through. It started with some glitchy beats and a couple of big basslines I was messing around with, with a general idea of a deep but almost overpowering feeling. Kathrin came to my little studio in London and we talked a little about the idea, before she just let go and free-style sang over the loops, using my crappy little test mic I bought for 12 pounds in 2002.

The plan was to lay down some melodic ideas for the vocals, which I could then select, and send back to Kathrin to write lyrics with and re-record properly. But when I ran through everything after I released she'd just nailed it right then and there! All I had to do was layer up some of the multiple instances of her voice, and add my reverbs and widening with some subtle EQing and compression, and it was there - she captured the pure feeling of the music and enhanced it a million times, and I love the free-flowing feeling of it, with its imperfections and half words, and of course, he subconscious vocal of not feeling any more lead to the title and concise concept for the music.

We knew that we had to get a video made to match Kathrin's work, and I was really excited to find out that Henning M. Lederer, who I had been a big fan of for some time, could do the project. We discussed options together and decided to try a "numbed by the capitalist machine" theme, which he has developed into an amazing, detailed story with a twist. I love the result, I hope it works for you too! - The video will be released in a few days, I'll put the link HERE when it's ready!
