Welcome to the WIFLIF...The Whenever I Feel Like It Freek...formerly known as The Once A Week Freek.  It used to be a weekly download service, but I couldn't keep up with the pace.  Quite frankly, I just don't like listening to myself enough to wade through all the material it takes to find something worthy of releasing. I have to much respect for you, the listener, to force releases. And let's face it, nobody's getting rich selling music these days.  

So instead of wilting under the pressure of deadlines, I've decided that I will let releases appear naturally.  Whenever I feel like it.  When something strikes me as being especially good, I'll release it.  If a month goes by and nothing works for me...then no releases.  It's pretty simple really.  The Whenever I Feel Like It Freek.  

How does it work?  That's simple too.  Just scroll through the list of releases including all the original Once A Week Freek tracks, read the backstories and stream the tracks.  If you really like a certain track, you're welcome to purchase it.

Recorded March 2010 at the Orange Peel in Asheville, North Carolina. 

"People Watching" appears on the Dream record as well as the Sight dvd. It also appears on my YouTube channel with Keith Moseley on bass recorded in ‘07 at the Georgia Theater. Jeff Sipe plays on the studio version (Dream) along with Bela Fleck on banjo and Victor Wooten on bass. This version has me on my hofner bass in a 3-piece setting. It contains build-ups and breakdowns all during the improvisational parts. Gibb and I play some unique, unrehearsed musical patterns that could not easily be repeated unless of course we wrote down the notes as we listened to this version. But that's no fun. We'd rather just make it up as go along. I discovered the actual sport of people watching in my late teens at those good ole' Grateful Dead shows. There were always lots of people to watch. Later on, I began watching people from stage. That's where this song came from. Please enjoy.

"People Watching" Live - Keller w/ Gibb Droll & Jeff Sipe - 3/5/10 Orange Peel

I came up with the hook for this song in the car on the way from dropping my kids off at school to the third stream studio in Thornburg, Virginia. As soon as they are out of the car, the music changes quickly. That day, 5/10/11, I went back and forth between backspin and shade 45, 2 awesome hip hop channels on satellite radio, so I had that mentality going when I arrived at the studio. I was planning on doing something completely different that day, but went ahead nd went with my inspiration. I’m glad I did. All I had was a hook and a slight idea of a theme. We found a cool loop to play along to and created the drum track. Toby Fairchild, who played with me in the added bonus, was in the house in full force. I stood in the room with him as he pounded on his drums. To create verse and chorus sections I would signal him to go to and from the high hat and the ride cymbal as well as the stops.It was all an experiment at this point. I think we did one take. Then I grabbed the house bass and spent 15 minuets recording bass ideas. Once that was done, I took to the vocal mic. Again I had nothing. I started riffing, stopping and starting over and over, laughing and carrying on, making things up.It was about 10 in the morning by this point so that was weird in and of itself. Sarah Wolff, a local singer songwriter/performer, was there assisting the engineer, Matt Montoro. I figured she would make a fine addition to the song and I was very happy with her cameo. I actually laugh out loud when I hear her parts. During my vocal improvs, I stumbled upon a line I heard from a live saffire record called "Live and Uppity." The song is called “Bitch With a Bad Attitude” sung by local celebrity and internationally known blues icon, Gaye Adegbalola.When she wasn't touring, she was a teacher at my high school.She was known as miss A. She taught the smart kids photography and maybe journalism. I think she might have done some AP classes as well. Her classes were never an option for me as I was.......not one of the smart kids. I was to busy failing spanish 1 for the second time to be invited to attend her smart kid classes. I remember her classroom being a small closet like room with only a few people there at a time. She was by no means in the closet, but her class room was small. I think they ran the school newspaper and designed the year book there. Saffire would occasionally play the local bars in Fredericksburg. I think my first gig for pay was between 10th and 11th grade, so I tried to go see Saffire any chance I could. I would hit her up for advice from time to time. I remember once between the student and faculty parking lots she told me that playing original music is great, but at the bars, don't be afraid to play songs people know and can sing along to. Her son, Juno, was the drummer of my first band called Down Hill Development featuring Kirk Edwards. Kirk showed me the proper chords to my first songs. He and I switched off and on guitar and bass. We submitted a cassette tape that we recorded with a boom box in Miss A's living room to the talent show committee (Jan White).I figured since Miss A was a respected teacher and local celebrity, and the drummer was her son, we would easily pass the audition and get to play the talent show.We did not. Either we weren't ready, or the tape was crappy, or we sounded completely awful. I’m guessing it was all of the 3. Juno still plays drums in one of Miss A's projects and produces his own music. Miss A continues to be a positive influence on many people, myself included. She's cool. If you've seen me in the last five months or so, chances are you've seen the live version of this by way of me holding my mac book and what one journalist says "making ridiculous facial expressions."For one 5 minute segment a show, I've been doing this crazy live remix mash up (as live as a laptop can get), using a whole bunch of samples and the Ableton Live program. This track is the studio version and has me on bass and synthesizer.Warning.... There's a few god damn shits. So........ear muffs for youths. 

This track features samples of fela kuti, trouble funk, katt williams and richard pryor. I played bass and synth and danced naked while I did it.

127 on the 808 was recorded at Maymont Park in Richmond, VA on May 13th, 2010. It is intended to be a dance song.One you dance to. Naked. On a golf course. In the middle of the night. Way back on the other side of the course away from the club house where no one can hear your sub-woofers or see your gyrating flesh as you dance your improvised, interpretive dance that tells a story with different characters, plot lines, tragedies, and ultimately closes with a happy ending. Not the dirty kind of Nevada brothel/massage parlor happy ending, but the one where the good guy gets the girl and the bad guy goes to jail and the world is transformed into a bright beautiful dream with flowers, water falls, bubbles, and cloud beds. "More Than A Little" was recorded 10/24/09 at the Egyptian Room at the Murat Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. This is the super tripped out/uninhibited jungle/housed up extended/drum and bass dance/Saturday night/end of set/DJ Kdub/live remix. Bitch.  This is a hot off the press display of my current looping ability at its recent peak. Feel free to compare it to the first version, which came out on the "Loop" record, which was showcasing the looping concept in its beginning stage. I'm far beyond the potential of what I can make electronics do. I just need to get more stuff. It’s out there for the taking (buying, that is…and this shit ain’t cheap). I'm just enjoying the thought of coming close to mastering the stuff I have that I've been using for years. Please enjoy this very loud while being naked.

More Than A Little - Live at the Murat Center - 10/24/09

Rush Limbaugh. This song is not a rebel song. This song is not a political song. This song is not “Sunday Bloody Sunday”. It is however about free speech and speaking your mind all of the time. It’s all about opinions. Well......this song is mine. I released this song a little while back and got a few letters from Rush lovers that didn't like this song very much. I can understand not liking the lyrics but the groove is down right sexy if I do say so myself. Sexy like the thought of Rush Limbaugh backin’ that ass up. Ohhhh…..that's sexy. Damn. You can just tune out the words and focus on that tasty, panty droppin’ groove. This was recorded at the totally awesome Pageant in St. Louis. It features harmony vocals from sound engineer, Louis Gosain. Please know that this song comes from me being a fan of the asshole/douche bag character that Rush Limbaugh portrays and not from any hatred of the Republican Party. I love republicans. They are funny. Glenn Beck is hilarious. The facial expressions that Sean Hannity gets are priceless. Bill O’Reilly and Giuliani? Both very funny men. Especially Giuliani. I'd bet he’d be fun to party with. They all have a role to play. They should all be in a movie together. Some non-political action packed thriller with special effects and nudity. I'd see it in the theater. Anyway, this one is about Rush Limbaugh whom I'd like to thank for giving me the inspiration to write 9 minutes of lyrics.
