“Hello music loving Freeks.   About 10 years ago, I began working on my 7th record, ‘Home’.  It was to be the follow up to my record ‘Laugh’.  Unfortunately, the fine folks at SCI Fidelity records informed me that they weren't even close to finished pushing the ‘Laugh’ record to radio stations, and anything else that I would record would have to wait until the plan for ‘Laugh’ was done.  I was bummed…for at least a day.  

Then I got the crazy idea to do a remix of ‘Laugh’.  The label agreed, and I jumped right into sessions with a mad musical scientist (engineer, producer) named Jeff Covert.   He and I had almost completed ‘Home’ by this time, and watching him work his crazy magic with the computer made me confident that with my ideas and his computer skills, this record could be rad.  

The idea was to extract my favorite samples from the ‘Laugh’ and create new tracks around those samples.  With Dave Watts on drums and Tye North on bass, being the total badasses that they are, it was easy to find samples.  I had more than enough.  The creative process was a blast.  

The end result was a record called ‘Dance’ that I am extremely proud of and even more proud to re-release it as I originally intended for it to be heard.  The entire record as one continuous track!   And to celebrate 10 years of its existence, I am ecstatic to announce that for a very short time, you can have it…for FREE!  After that, the one track download will continue to be an option along side the cd and single track downloads at the discounted price of $6.99.  A HUGE thank you goes to SCI Fidelity Records for allowing this to happen.

Recorded March 2010 at the Orange Peel in Asheville, North Carolina. 

"People Watching" appears on the Dream record as well as the Sight dvd. It also appears on my YouTube channel with Keith Moseley on bass recorded in ‘07 at the Georgia Theater. Jeff Sipe plays on the studio version (Dream) along with Bela Fleck on banjo and Victor Wooten on bass. This version has me on my hofner bass in a 3-piece setting. It contains build-ups and breakdowns all during the improvisational parts. Gibb and I play some unique, unrehearsed musical patterns that could not easily be repeated unless of course we wrote down the notes as we listened to this version. But that's no fun. We'd rather just make it up as go along. I discovered the actual sport of people watching in my late teens at those good ole' Grateful Dead shows. There were always lots of people to watch. Later on, I began watching people from stage. That's where this song came from. Please enjoy.

If you've seen me in the last five months or so, chances are you've seen the live version of this by way of me holding my mac book and what one journalist says "making ridiculous facial expressions."For one 5 minute segment a show, I've been doing this crazy live remix mash up (as live as a laptop can get), using a whole bunch of samples and the Ableton Live program. This track is the studio version and has me on bass and synthesizer.Warning.... There's a few god damn shits. So........ear muffs for youths. 

This track features samples of fela kuti, trouble funk, katt williams and richard pryor. I played bass and synth and danced naked while I did it.

Felas Funk Trouble

Rush Limbaugh. This song is not a rebel song. This song is not a political song. This song is not “Sunday Bloody Sunday”. It is however about free speech and speaking your mind all of the time. It’s all about opinions. Well......this song is mine. I released this song a little while back and got a few letters from Rush lovers that didn't like this song very much. I can understand not liking the lyrics but the groove is down right sexy if I do say so myself. Sexy like the thought of Rush Limbaugh backin’ that ass up. Ohhhh…..that's sexy. Damn. You can just tune out the words and focus on that tasty, panty droppin’ groove. This was recorded at the totally awesome Pageant in St. Louis. It features harmony vocals from sound engineer, Louis Gosain. Please know that this song comes from me being a fan of the asshole/douche bag character that Rush Limbaugh portrays and not from any hatred of the Republican Party. I love republicans. They are funny. Glenn Beck is hilarious. The facial expressions that Sean Hannity gets are priceless. Bill O’Reilly and Giuliani? Both very funny men. Especially Giuliani. I'd bet he’d be fun to party with. They all have a role to play. They should all be in a movie together. Some non-political action packed thriller with special effects and nudity. I'd see it in the theater. Anyway, this one is about Rush Limbaugh whom I'd like to thank for giving me the inspiration to write 9 minutes of lyrics.

What made it unusual was the unknown opener (at the time)....Norah Jones.  She was (and probably still is) cool.
