The Dying Miss Saeki (Den döende fröken Saeki) is the fourth and last movement in From the Bottom of a Well (Från botten av en brunn) based on Haruki Murakami's novel Kafka on the Shore. The the sounds were designed from, and the music was written from a grounded theory analysis of the book. The piece was performed and recorded on the 16th of December 2021 by Robert Ek, clarinet; Kevin Kirs Verstege, cello; and Rikard Vilhelm Lindell, eurorack at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. The echoes of Eurasian Cranes are bouncing from forest edges in countryside landscape of Rõuge parish, Estonia. It is a distant corner of southern Estonia with only a few farmhouses in sight.
The song of skylarks is filling early morning spring air, goldfinches and a northern wheatear are vocalising nearby, looking for a suitable nesting site next to a small country house and several old oak trees. Other birds in the recording: wood pigeons, eurasian cuckoo, willow warbler, crow.

"I am never anywhere, anywhere I go" is a piece for spatialized trio and sound object. Clarinet, piccolo and cello are disposed at the vertices of a triangle, in the center of which a special instrument is placed: a barrel that acts as a resonator to a metal grid, which the musicians gradually approach to play through bows and cans.
The spectral and timbral properties of this 'new instrument,' as well as the visual and gestural implications it brings to the performance, are the object of research in this work. The attempt at an organic homogeneity of sound, despite the different sources from which it comes, together with the extremely resonant acoustic environment of the foyer help to accentuate the concept that gives the piece its title: "wherever I go, I am nowhere."
