I wrote Ghost Ship for us. The tune was written just after lockdown in 2020. As with everything I do, I take my time with music. I thought the track might lose it’s meaning, as we’re, thankfully, slowly rising out of the ashes of these long months of isolation and dread. Instead, it now feels like an epitaph to the pandemic. A bye-bye and fuck you, while we rise in Love, rejoicing in the end of our lost togetherness.

Ghost Ship

Be My Mystery is my summer love song for 2022, that I’m releasing in the fall of 2022, because I was too busy enjoying summer to sit at my laptop and organize a release in the actual summertime! I finished recording it back in the late winter/early spring. It’s a bit of a departure for me. I’m a romantic at heart, but, strangely, that rarely makes its way into my writing. At least not romantic love. I’ve always written about the more search-worthy aspects of life, and there’s enough tragic heroism in our day to day to fill more volumes of song than I could ever hope to pen in this lifetime. The thing I’m singing about here is the mm-mmm goodness of that feeling you get when romantic love is new, and you lean into the yearning for your flame and smoulder in the memory of your last embrace. When it’s on, there’s nothing like it. And, if you’re one of the lucky ones, the love and yearning remain, and grow deeper with the passage of time. Here’s to new love and love everlasting.

The song was inspired by a wander through the Don Trail in Toronto, where we came upon someone’s creative addition to the city’s warnings to cyclists, lest they run down some unsuspecting sod walking the path. Kelvin’s songs lean into life in all its battered glory.

His poetic, image-rich lyrics riff on self-awareness and our commonality in a world distracted. Coupled with music born of a love for rock ‘n’ roll, roots, reggae and old school R&B, the groove that accompanies the message is deep and wide.

“Raw,” “soulful,” and “beautiful” are the words most often used to describe his sound. Kelvin’s voice is timeless, inspired by such greats as Sam Cooke, Nick Cave, Bob Marley and Johnny Cash. His guitar style blends acoustic fingerpicking and percussive, tribal elements

Kelvin’s music has taken him to Nashville, where he cut his teeth with some top shelf producers and players. He’s toured through Europe, across the Great White North, and back. As a result, people all over the world have been turned on to his work.

A multi-instrumentalist, Kelvin’s live show incorporates orchestral elements, live drum/vocal loops, top shelf tunes and a whole lotta love. Picture Gordon Lightfoot hanging with The Wailers at a Black Sabbath concert. It’s a Folk Sabbath kinda thing.

2025 sees Kelvin releasing and supporting Stereophile, the new full length record and accompanying 28 page small format book.
