I fucking love this show, and as everyone knows nothing goes better with intense sci-fi rigamarole than some metal. I hope the judges like my entry. So, I've been binging on Rick and Morty lately. I swear to god it's one of the funniest shows I've seen. And despite that season 2 is surprisingly full of surprise feels. It's a fantastic show, and I'm in love with the theme song. There's not enough in the theme to warrant a straight cover though, so for a while I was unsure of what to do. Then I decided, "well, it's sort of a Back to the Future parody, why don't I give it an 80s theme?" It's not exactly 100% 80s, the distorted guitars are very, uh, not-80s, but all of the synths used would have been present in the early 80s, and most of the synth playing is based on 80s styles (especially the bouncing octave bassline), the drum sound is quite 80s sounding, it's just got a heavy 80s sound. 

One of the biggest contributors to that sound is, of course, the gated snare reverb. Yeah bitch, gated snare verbs, haven't used those in a while, at least not very noticeably, now it's back in full force!

Something else I'm doing with this track that I've never actually done before, I'm releasing the original stems. Sort of. I went in and rendered out stems of each individual element in the song, every synth, every guitar, every individual drum - without any processing - and zipped it all up into a RAR file, which you can download from the link at the bottom of the description. More details inside, but I've got all the files as lossless FLAC files, unprocessed so you can mess with them yourself, and I've even provided REAPER projects, one with all the tracks grouped together and color-coded, and one with just the color-coding.

So, the track itself. I mentioned it was 80s influenced. It's also one of the more complex tracks I've done. I know, I say that a lot lately, but for once, it's complex, but with a good mix. I mean a really good mix. Even my more recent mixes sound pretty bad in my car. This track bangs in my headphones, on my speakers, and in my car. It's probably the best mix I've done since Gravity Falls.

Musically, it's also the best thing I've done since Gravity Falls. Holy shit, I can't believe I never stumbled upon it before, but playing an F major chord in Bb minor, it's beautiful. There's one point in the track where there's two leads harmonizing sort of, and the chord shifts to an F major, and the harmony between the leads and that chord creates this beautiful dissonance that blows away just about everything I've ever done. Except for Gravity Falls of course (I compare a lot of my stuff to that track, something I'll probably be doing for a while. It means a lot to me, that song. It was the first track I did where I could say I was legitimately happy with the mix. Up until that point I'd mixed tracks that sounded good, but that was the first time I listened to something I made and actually felt proud of myself, so yeah, there's gonna be a lot of comparing). 

For real though, this track has become my absolute second favorite track I've done. Out ranks even some of the stuff on Majora, which I also consider to be among my best work. Most of the time I listen back to my work, I'm surprised that I made it, but every so often there's a track that just blows me away, to the point where I'm giggling with glee and just so fucking excited that something like this came from me. This is one of those tracks.

I'm so super sorry, I can't believe I forgot that. I spent like an hour typing it up and revising it and forgot to save it into the folder. In that readme is all the relevant info I could think of regarding the stems for this track. I also had to delete some stuff to fit this in the description, but it was unimportant.
