Old Man Luedecke - The Early Days

Here's a song I wrote as 2017 begins - not exactly a pretty picture, but in the howls I hope we can hear the winds of positive change.  I was spurred to make this recording by the challenge of the Maple Blues Awards Cobalt Prize to support "innovation" in the blues.  Big thanks to Bucky Berger, John Showman and Ben Whiteley who played on it with me.

Unsolicited Advice

Written in early September of 2017 - a month of storms and challenges, both global and personal.  Recorded as a duo with Ken on National steel guitar played with his bronze slide and his son, Ben Whiteley on string bass.  I hope we can all "rest awhile".

Let Me Rest A While

This tells the story of my grandfather's grandfather, Michael Sullivan and how he came to leave Ireland and eventually brought his family to Canada in the 1840's.  I fashioned this as personal expression of that universal quest for freedom. Recorded mostly live-off-the-floor, it features the latest incarnation of the Beulah Band, Rosalyn Dennett (fiddle, vocals), Rob McLaren (banjo, vocals) and Ben Whiteley (string bass).
