Sure we like a spot of good, old-fashioned chaotic techno here at DT, but we love to relax too, and seeing as how the working week is almost over we think it's the perfect time to share a little slice of serenity from Pablie. 

Out October 16th as part of the Spaniard's B Sides compilation - a 9-track collection of "instrumental soundscapes and immersive sonic sketches" produced from 2007-2009 - 'They Came From The Past' offers a laid back vision of electronica. Most easily described as instrumental hip hop sat somewhere between East Asian folk and Last Of The Summer Wine, the track seems to be the sonic embodiment of a meadow in summer - peaceful, warm and filled with the comforting rustle of life.

Cedar Stone

小雨 (Kosame) in Japanese means “light” or “gentle” rain. It is an interesting concept for a specific kind of soft rain you might find on spring mornings. I wanted to name this album after a specific idea or concept that really captured it, and in this case the Japanese word fared better than an English translation. Most of these tracks were written and developed in late Fall of 2016 to early 2017. At that time, I had only been living in Los Angeles briefly. It was the first time I had experienced a true season of rains; often these rains were very gentle and would last through the night until mid to late morning before they dissipated, leaving a beautiful refreshing and cool air, blue skies, and green hills. This gave me a particular sense of tranquility and lightness, which in turn influenced the way I was writing and thinking about music. In particular, I strove to create songs that had a meditative feel to them. As with my previous work, I tried to keep the compositions intuitive and free-flowing, almost like a stream of consciousness, rather than based on a certain predefined concept or framework. I also brought in vocals for the first time, with local vocalists Selina Carerra and Carly Barnette, whom I met at small intimate shows in Los Angeles. The album also features some recordings from other friends, such as Yvette Holzwarth (collaborator with Tethys) and Parker Law and Connor Malloy on drums. This was also my first album recording drums, which was an exciting and interesting learning process. The photographs upon which the album art is based were taken in San Francisco in late Fall 2016, just after a light rain, and thus represent the core mood of the album. Arms and Sleepers has had a very busy year, with several official releases as well as new side and solo projects. Continuing the year at full speed ahead sees the duo team up with Indie Downtempo label Loci Records, which was founded by the internationally acclaimed producer Emancipator.
A staple among fans of electronic music crossing into lo-fi, cinematic, and chillwave territories, Arms and Sleepers will release ‘Current Powers Of Movement’ on October 02. The EP is starkly lo-fi, nostalgic, and timeless. The lead single ‘So Much Sometimes’ gives the listener a deep sense of familiarity, and the rest of the EP continues on with a similar aesthetic. Co-Produced, mixed, and mastered by fellow lo-fi favorite Sun Glitters, ‘Current Powers Of Movement’ will not disappoint anyone looking for the familiar nostalgic qualities of contemporary lo-fi electronic.
Arms and Sleepers has been featured by the likes of Earmilk, XLR8R, NPR, and Huffington Post, and their music has been licensed by Vice, Amazon, National Geographic, and United Airlines, among many others.

‘So Much Sometimes’ is an older idea that had been inexplicably forgotten and which I really wanted to resurrect. It was just a sample with a beat and I decided to give it a bit of a My Bloody Valentine feel (though there are no actual guitars in the song). I’ve always loved shoegaze and trip-hop genres, and this seemed like a good opportunity to try and combine elements of both. The upcoming EP will be the 4th in a 6-part music series that Arms and Sleepers is releasing this year, so I gotta keep myself entertained by experimenting musically and trying things I haven’t done before.
