Az Önismereti Diszkó bemutatja: Laza varázslat

Egyszer volt, hol nem volt, volt egy gyár Nagymaroson. Ez a gyár elhagyatottnak tűnt, ottfelejtett retro objektum, lehet gondolni, ha csak elsétál mellette az ember. 
Egy estébe hajló délután megelevenedett a gyártető: festőbakok, dj kontrollerek és egy kedves csapat lepték el a nyári naptól felhevült betont. Talán kicsit átalakult akkor és ott a tér, a naplemente, a zene, a vonatok zaja, az alkotók és a modellek koncentrációja, az alkotás szabadsága és amit még egy téli este álmodtunk ott egyszer csak létrejött, mint amikor sok kis mozaik darabból kirajzolódik egy kép.

Halgassátok, nézzétek olyan szeretettel, mint ahogy azt akkor és ott mi készítettük.

Végtelen hála mindenki fele, aki közreműködött, hogy ez a laza varázslat ott és akkor megszülethessen

When I DJ I don't just move from song A to song B to song C etc.

What I love doing is similar to weaving a tapestry - taking vocal and musical elements from a few songs and playing them throughout the journey. I also enjoy hinting on upcoming songs and bringing back 'memories' or 'echoe's of songs that were played earlier.

For example this DJ set starts with a devotional african chant by the great Miriam Makeba; Parts of this chant repeat later and then the whole song is played. Finally, the journey finishes with the same chant.

I love doing this because it creates familiarity and a coherent journey. It also invites play and exploration.

I've always been the kid and then the man who stands next to the DJ and watched what they do on the turntables and the mixer and more recently on the DJ controller and software. I learn so much by doing this, beyond just listening to them playing.

So I've decided to include a view of my DJ software -  while it feels vulnerable to show everything i'm doing, I hope it inspires some people.

Originally from New Zealand, Harry Charles has been based in Berlin for the past 6 years, working predominantly as a guitarist, vocalist and drummer in various projects. As a live musician he has fallen in love with the world of electronica. Collecting inspiration from Berlin's never-ending nighttime adventures into sound and dance, along with a mingle of magical encounters with the colourful personalities that come out to play, he couldn’t help but start producing his own own bag of electronica tricks, and perform his own take on downtempo music: deep dancefloor grooves, riddled with live guitar and vocals. Harry has selected a bouquet of his unpublished compositions for us... A magical and melancholic hike in the forest of downtempo.

Another dream came true as I played the Sunday noon set at Pyramid Yoga, the biggest Ecstatic Dance venue and event in Koh PhaNgan, where i've been dancing and living for many years.

I was so happy to see the people dance, jump, and shout to the wide-ranging journey of beats-infused world music I played.

A few highlights:
- Beats and Bass-infused vocals and music from Native-american, New-Zealand Mauri, Russian,  Tibetan, Amazonian, Aboriginal Australian, Indian, Turkish, Brazilian, Balkan,  and LOTS of African
- A traditional African acapella, an upbeat electronic remix of it, and samples that return many times during the whole journey
- A few other vocal and melodic African songs
- My newest track, a tribal remix of "Stone gods of Bimini", by Ixtahuele
