Cold Busted returns to familiar label artist Poldoore (born Tom Schillebeeckx) to release his new album, The Day Off. It features some talented guests, including the mysterious Maverick, emcee duo The 49ers, American blues singer Bodhilynn, and trumpeter Will Magid. Based out of Belgium, Poldoore started producing at an early age and eventually his potential was realized by Cold Busted&rsquo;s offer to release his debut L.A.X. EP . From there the pairing has only grown stronger. Poldoore&rsquo;s sound is about good vibes, creating warm atmospheres that blend funk, soul, lounge, and reggae with punchy drum breaks. Among the album&rsquo;s many highlights is &ldquo;Morning Glory,&rdquo; featuring a rocksteady beat with bright arpeggiated synths at select moments, with the bulk of the track carried by wailing guitars and chopped up blues vocals. &ldquo;Ahhh Yeah&rdquo; enters like a walk in the park with bright keys, lovely strings, and funky rhythms, the results of rearranging an original sample into suitable bits and pieces with a little help from Maverick. &ldquo;Heard It All Before&rdquo; has Bodhilynn&rsquo;s soulful vocal hook accompanied by The 49ers&rsquo; rhymes and a key-based beat with soaring highs. &ldquo;Natural High&rdquo; elicits psychedelic vibes with plenty of effects, a sporadic, low electric shock, and interwoven, layered guitar play. &ldquo;Unconditional&rdquo; uses a Motown-like backing track beefed up by a strong kick and slow, sizzling hats, cymbals, and snares. Midway through &ldquo;Unconditional&rdquo; Poldoore is joined by Will Magid&rsquo;s saucy, bayou-evoking horn solo. &ldquo;Call It A Day&rdquo; is a dreamy funk affair full of shimmery, echoing melodies, teetering guitars, forward-staggering key stabs, and a stand out bass line. The Day Off is full of sonic sunshine, exactly the kind of sonic weather fit for enjoying what little time there is for leisure and much appreciated in today&rsquo;s musical climate. My dear Helen it’s been a while since we’ve talked. Charlie and I haven’t been up to a whole lot. He’s slowing down a little and my knee’s acting up, yeah we’re quite a pair of geezers moving slower than molasses. You’d be laughing if you saw us, you always loved to tease. I dug up an old bottle of your raspberry wine, so I’m slouched out on the porch swing just taking my time. My mind keeps turning out these pictures of you, you were dancing in the kitchen and I was enjoying my view. Oh, Charlie was squirming just two steps behind you. My dear Helen do you remember when you said that you’d be waiting at the gates so you could sneak me in? Well it sure was funny but it’s still caught in my throat, and when I think about it now, it still makes me choke, and I wonder if those gates would ever open up for me. Helen my dear, I do have something to tell. I don’t know how to start so I guess I just will. See, these nights have been hot, it’s that muggy sort of air. Doesn’t let me get to sleep so I usually just lie there on top of my quilt with Charlie by my feet. Last night as I laid there frustrated and tired, I was sat up in my bed by the hens starting wild. I thought, “That fox is back again, he’s gonna rob me blind. I don’t know how he gets in but I’d better make him fly.” So I took my leaning rifle out the door. I fired off a shot aiming far into the heat. And as soon as it was flying I felt weak in my knees. I heard shoes turning gravel and then tires spitting rocks. I heard a gasp for air and my stomach tied in knots. Charlie started whining with his tail between his legs. We wandered out slow but my heart was breakin’ ribs. I couldn’t hear nothing and there was a girl lying twisted. My hands were trembling and I felt that she was limp. Her pulse wasn’t tapping so I felt sick to my stomach. Charlie was frozen, so I went for a shovel and I buried her body, I didn’t know what else to do. If I’d only aimed a little higher, if I’d only thought before I fired. I hope God can forgive me, I hope you forgive me too. I’m just a tired old man just waiting to join you. So here I am slouched on this old porch swing, thinking about heaven, thinking about everything. So be waiting by those gates, you might need to sneak me in. I don’t know how they feel about us accidental killers. I don’t know how they feel about us tired old men. I don’t know how they feel about us tired, old, murdering men. I don’t know how they feel about us tired, old, murdering men.

Meticulously written over four years and recorded over one in a makeshift studio set up in his parent’s basement, Shauf, whose delivery at times reminds of Elliott Smith or Paul Simon, plays nearly every instrument on The Bearer of Bad News. The album was crafted on his grandfather’s timeworn guitar and heavily influenced by the aforementioned—and newly learned—clarinet, which was a Christmas gift from family. In spite of his modest recording set-up, Shauf imbued The Bearer of Bad News with an enduring warmth and redolence that lingers long after the album ends.

there it is. my first cassette tape release. i moved to a new city to start studying in october '16 - this is a collection of beats I made throughout the past six months in my very small room, that pretty much only served me for making beats and sleeping (more or less) since I spent most of my time and money in pubs with friends. These beats represent this very turbulent, sleepless beginning of the great time i'm having right now.
The tape is free to listen on soundcloud (see link below) - however, if you feel like supporting me here, I'd be very grateful. There are two bonus tracks on the digital album on bandcamp that are on the cassette tape as well. Unfortunately, the amount of available cassette tapes is very limited at this moment - simply because I couldn't afford any more of them. However, it feels great to have them and I hope you enjoy them as well. thanks for the great support over the last two years! peace.
