inspired by her residencies at stockholm‘s EMS studios, kyoka‘s new EP »SH« might be her most experimental record so far.

the 4 tracks presented on this EP can be described as snapshots having a spontaneous character as they were edited and recorded during various sound checks and performances.

the results are not less typical of kyoka‘s chaotic sound with unforeseen shifts in beat, unpredicted repetitions and surprising clicks and bops. the rather slow and gloomy opener »susurrus« is followed by a somehow dubby and strongly up-tempo track, »smash/hush«, that culminates in a repetitive and hypnotic swirl. the b-side, on the other hand, continues with a rather slamming track and is rounded of with »shush«, a track that loses some speed, but not complexity through its diverse breaks and cuts.

besides a release on vinyl, this EP will also see a CD release in japan with two additional tracks that will be available digitally through raster-noton‘s online shop.

An exploration of the sounds of space exploration - made here on Earth. ESA's ESTEC facility is where spacecraft are prepared for travel.

Here are sounds recorded of prototypes of ESA's upcoming ExoMars rover, made in the Planetary Robotics Lab. This includes sounds as we would actually hear them (albeit in Earth atmosphere), as the rover prototype tests its wheels and disembarks from the lander mock-up and traverses some simulated Martian gravel.

It also includes some electro-magnetic radiation, converted to audible sound. 

In addition, I've included sounds of the popping of nitrogen valves from the Materials & Electrical Components Laboratory, involved in a materials test.

The microphones used for this recording are specially made by Slovakia's Jonáš Gruska (LOM Label). Audible spectrum recordings are made with Uši; EMF recordings with Elektrosluch.

These were produced in November 2016 as part of a collaboration with the European Space Agency and TEDxESA. They're CC for a reason - we hope you'll remix and reuse them!

ESTEC - EMF Recording Of Mars Rover

Iteration is the second piece of a composition cycle exploring the musical concept of pulsation. This composition is built around the ideas of acceleration and deceleration of iterative sound and the concept of polyrhythm. The sounds come exclusively from electronic sources and they were played mostly played in real time and then reorganized into a coherent piece.
I highly recommend to listen to this piece with a decent pair of headphones or full range speakers since there is a lot going on into the bass frequencies range.

This piece deals with sounds from our environment. Specifically sounds of rooms and electronic circuits. Sounds we don’t perceive consciously most of the time, but still influence us permanently. Or electromagnetic waves we can’t hear at all, but surround us nonetheless.
I tried to incorporate characteristic elements of electronica and minimal music, like loops, drones and bodily rhythms into electroacoustic music.
