Alma Redemptoris Mater from Gregorian Chant, Christmas Chants

Dies Irae translates to "Day of Wrath" and is part of the traditional roman catholic Requiem Chants (the liturgy for the Death). Basically it is known for images of Divine Judgment and the responsibilities for your life actions. The Chant stems from the 13th century and has a long history in endless music, art and literature.There were lots of impressive and sometimes even scary musicial compositions using this text throught the centuries (for example by Mozart). Johann Wolfgang von Goethe used the first, the sixth and the seventh stanza of the hymn in the scene "Cathedral" in the first part of his drama Faust (1808). The well-know "wrath" and "judgment" aspects are only part of the first half of the Chant, while it has a turn of redemption and hope in the middle. I tried to portrait that by changing the atmosphere of the Chant there and trying to get to the core of what it's meant to be. Also it is important, that the idea of Divine Judgment refers to the lower and fallen aspects of men, while the path of light is portray in the second half of the chant - a process that we all should go through in the course of our lifes. As always, there is a deeper hidden mystery in these chants regarding your own inner being and which isn't always be found in the litteral meaning.

Dies Irae

"Veni Sancte Spiritus" is an ancient christian mystical prayer, used to achieve unity with the Divine spark and Spirit that lies deep within you, Divine Inspiration and Divine Transformation of your being. Today, after seeing spiritual and religious core truths corrupted and externalized to such an extent, it's nessecary to emphasize and reclaim this original understanding that can be found in almost every mystical tradition on earth. It's not about external things, but about you connecting with the Divine Dimension, hidden deep in yourself, overcoming the actual state of lower ego and our fallen nature. Once this inner connection is made, its higher forces illuminate ones being and liberate from illusion, disconnection and external control. It's about time to reclaim what is ours.

Veni Sance Spiritus

The "Our Father" or "Lord's Prayer" is found in the New Testament as a guiding line on how to pray. While the major part of the world today uses it to pray to an external God, residing in unknown external spheres, mystics throughout the centuries used it as a spiritual guideline to transform their spiritual being towards the internal and existential union with God: "You won’t be able to say, ‘Here it is!’ or ‘It’s over there!’ For the Kingdom of God is already among you.” (Lk 17:21), "Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in your midst?" (1 Cor 3:16), "But you when you pray, enter into your inner room, and having shut your door, pray to your Father, the One in secret. And your Father, the One seeing in secret, will reward you." (Mt 6:6). This is the lost key and misunderstanding, that needs to be rediscovered in our times again.

Is it a real Gregorian Chant? Nope. For one - there are no real words in it. Honestly, I don't want a religious exaltation mucking up my fantasy world. So if you're building a historically accurate "Monk Simulator: Year of Our Lord 882!", just move on. The other reason this isn't real is I never learned how to read that notation. There are insufficient sticks for the rhythms in the notation... I know, there is a real convention that you can learn. I just grabbed a few pieces of the sheet music from the 1200s, and guessed at how to do it. Sounds reasonable enough to me! (says the guy who knows virtually nothing about the art)
