Part III in Kevin Over's unique Retrovision series on Noir Music is ready to be blasted out on club-systems around the globe. After releases on Truesoul and Mobilee our little golden-bird return to homebase for yet another incredible EP. Most people already familiar with Kevin's unique music are in love and big supporters and we can assure you that this 3rd edition of Retrovision is no disapointment to the collection. The 2 openers LY and Bollwerk are a little more techno influenced than most of Kevin's previous stuff. Its still the oldschool, warm and groovy techno inspired by the 80s and 90s Detroit and Chicago underground so it won't scare away the house-lovers. Virginia and Past Hype are closer to Kevin's previous releases on Noir Music and leans more towards the deeper side of tech-house with cheeky samples, cut-up grooves and melodies...... The way he has spoiled our ears and won our hearts in the past. Overall another flawless EP from Kevin Over that will have people divided in what track is the actual A-side and best track among the 4 pearls.

4Lux are a highly respectable record label based out of Rotterdam, Netherlands. Well known for their expertise in house & downtempo electronica, they have developed somewhat of a unique sound. Started by Gert-Jan Bij (or others may know him as Gerd) back in the early 2002 4Lux have had some impressive artists on the books; L’Atelier, Roman Rauch and Alex Agore to name a few. Black and white are two of the sub label series ran by the outfit, both unique as each other.

Born in Oberhausen, Germany, Kevin Over (soundcloud ) is another in a long list of great electronic music talent to come out of the country. He’s no stranger to the dusky grasp of deep house, making him a perfect fit for a release on the notorious 4Lux. Without further ado, we have the pleasure of bringing to you today a beautifully produced piece of music from Kevin Over called Coop. Taken from his latest EP “A G’s Last Dance” on 4LUX1801D this record perfectly rounds off another amazing release by the German. Like many of Kevin’s tracks, Coop takes you on a musical journey with its bold euphoric sounds making themselves known. Lush pads, keys and strings are combined to fabricate something very special, yet each unique and varied in their own way to make the other elements come to life. A track that will make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up, grab a copy of this EP today.

Kevin Over - Basement Rip #1 EP | Audio Safari

Kevin Over returns to Kerri Chandler’s Madhouse Records this October with his ‘Lavender’ EP, backed with a remix from Seven Davis Jr.

Berlin-based producer and DJ Kevin Over has been on the rise over the past few years with a steady stream of output on the likes of Gerd’s 4Lux, Dj Steaw’s House Puff and of course Madhouse where he returns to here following last years ‘Where To Begin’ EP.

The original mix of ‘Penthouse Boogie’ opens with jangling metallic percussion, thunderous sub tones and dusty drums driving the groove whilst an amalgamation of choppy chords and stabs ebb and flow amongst hypnotic pads, hooky vocals and jazzy marimba tones.

Seven Davis Jr’s remix of 'Penthouse Boogie' follows, taking a more raw and stripped-back approach with a gritty drum groove, skippy hats at the forefront whilst easing in the original’s vocal chant, resonant pad swells, wandering marimba tones and a fresh, bumpy bass line.

Title-track 'Lavender' then rounds out the package on a Garage tip with swinging broken drums, hooky vocal phrases, murky bass tones and organ stabs.

Kevin Over’s ‘Lavender’ EP is out on Madhouse Records 26th October 2018.

German house hero Kevin Over’s mission with DJing and producing runs somewhat deeper than most. The things that made club culture so vital in the first place — the breaking down of social barriers, the experience of coming together through music, the creation of unique spaces away from the norms of day-to-day society — form the very heart of what he does. 

Alongside releases on Kerri Chandler’s Madhouse Records, Gerd’s 4lux, Truesoul, Get Physical, and other A-grade imprints, he continues to study for a degree in sociology. It’s this other side of his life that forms the crux of his interests in dance music. “Taking part in and actually being responsible in building up certain societies which have their own morals and which develop their own behavior and character makes every club night special to me” he says. In age when people are coming to dance music through commercial channels with no grounding in the culture or history of the context in which it blossomed and evolved, it’s refreshing to hear such salient words from an artist in their mid-20s.

Whether he’s making raw, jacking house grooves, deeper, soul-drenched stuff or Detroit-flavoured workouts, his music is always muscular, intriguing and captivating. House music is his palette, but there’s myriad colours within it. “Musically, I like to see myself in an infinite swirl of musical progression and development. My aim is to never stick in any field, but getting in there, switching positions, and reproducing these experiences and feelings through my own sound... avoiding repetition while keeping my own character and expression.” He realises this ethos through an incredibly crisp, punchy, sophisticated production quality.

His DJ sets switch gears through different levels of house, techno and disco, from the roots of the music to his own freshly-cooked studio productions. He has played across the world from Australia and New Zealand to Argentina, London, Stockholm, Barcelona, Brussels, Dublin and Berlin. He relishes the challenges and benefits that come with playing at different times of night — whether that’s warming up, playing peak time or the closing set. “I love to play all kinds of different locations to create different atmospheres. The magic of the impossibility of the replicability of every night fascinates me. Every night needs a different key and taking the risk to find the right one instead of just brutally barging the doors down... that’s what keeps it exciting. The unexpected and unplanned possibilities and spontaneity of a night are what excite me as a DJ.”
