Next up on Alphaville Records is Volen, delivering the label’s fifth outing with Neighborhood Edits EP, a carefully crafted nod to early ’90s house, reimagined with a modern twist.
Leading the charge is Chia Pet, a hedonistic party starter packed with groove and hands-up energy. Mista (Acid House Mega Mix) follows with a deeper, more heads-down vibe, full of samples and clever switch-ups. On the flip, Coro 303 (Dub Mix), a stripped-back roller with a cheeky acid line and vocal infused breakdowns. Rounding things out is Define Less, a dubbed-out, downtempo closer with trippy sirens and a satisfyingly wet bassline.

CUBE 40 “Bad Computa”

TEMPLE TRAXX is my brand new label specializing in material from the early days of techno and house. 

“Bad Computa” was originally released in 1995 on Temple Records NYC and is now the second re-issue on TEMPLE TRAXX. 
Produced by my brother Jammin’ Unit, who also signed for re-mastering, and myself as Bizz O.D. in four-on-the-floor matters. 
CUBE 40 was always meant to be “The Ramones of Techno” by repeating the same track idea over and over. Compare with “You Make Me Function” and you’ll get the idea. Cube 40 played only one show ever: 1998 at Berlin’s E-Werk, dressed in ripped jeans and t-shirts, long black hair, and a can of Budwiser in each hand to resemble their Gabba-Gabba-Hey heroes. Hey Ho Let’s Go Bad Computa!

Brame & Hamo are back with the third release on their eponymous imprint. ‘Trants’ and ‘Club Orange’ effortlessly upheld the Berlin based duo’s reputation for dancefloor ready hits, with the latter selling out in one day. Picking up where the others left off, ‘Limewire EP’ is a nod to their early influences channelling house, techno, trance and breakbeat.

Over three tracks, Brame & Hamo brandish the party starting spirit they are rapidly becoming known for. Broken beats feature heavily alongside subtle acid licks, uplifting harmonies and sweltering synth lines.

‘Parade Rain’ is a peak time house roller with pulsing bass, meditative pads and airy pipes that polish it off to make a fine rendition to early 90’s house. ‘Sports Complex’ the darkest of the EP, builds an intense energy with a heavy hitting 808 , shuttering reflections, a driving 303 line topped off with a trance-inducing melody that makes this into a big room bomb. The title track is a breakbeat workout honing a classy piano riff complimented with emotional synths, strings and more acid lines, a fruit for clarity. Finally “Tuff City Kids” aka Gerd Janson & Lauer round it up with a club ready interpretation of their title track, adding more drum layers, a jittering bassline and a simple but effective melody to finish it off.

‘Limewire’ EP finds the duo exploring a range of influences, expertly referencing various styles whilst still weighing in the sound that is now unmistakably theirs.

It’s an interesting time for Haŵs, having successfully rolled out their parties to popular venues across Cardiff and London with takeovers hosting everyone from Special Request to DMX Krew in the last year alone. Their previous releases on the label side have been more languorous and serene, with their overarching vision primarily holding a strong emphasis on building upon a bedrock of house music, and bolstered with accents of acid, breaks and other subgenres. But since their more recent event bookings have been so notably comprehensive, the sixth EP has taken that full step into developing upon the variety they champion at their parties. This next chapter of their growth actualises itself in the form of Dawl’s ‘Break It Down’ EP, a warehouse-ready, bouncy and charismatic record channelling insatiable vigour from beginning to end.

1) FPU - Crockett's Theme / Seven Of Nine:

already a decade old, but these tracks still have not really been bettered when it comes to the 80's electro-techno revival of the early 00s. At the time, i was so in love with them, and they really helped Turbo grow at a critical time. Peter Benisch was a thoughtful, talented producer, and i loved all his music.

2) Martini Bros - The Biggest Fan (Blackstrobe Remix)

i remember this being one of my favorites, and a record that really marked Turbo "coming out" internationally. The original was amazing, but Blackstrobe just nailed a remix that perfectly summed up the feelings and the mood of the time. Fun, playful, vocal..... and got Ivan Smagghe on our label!!! A definitive Turbo record.

3) ZZT - Lower State of Consciousness

i tried to avoid my own records, but the fact is that this is just a ridiculously dope record: genuinely weird, undeniably powerful, and not easy to duplicate (i know, ive tried). I also like records that capture a new feeling or a new relationship, and this was the SOUND of me and Zombie Nation getting in studio for the first time. I think its one of the best we have released. yes, i am biased.

4) Panash - Jack 2 Jack (Jesper Dahlback Remix)

this is a classic Turbo formula: find an old record that you felt was underated from your personal collection, aquire the rights, and get a master like Dahlback to remix it to perfection. The early years of Turbo would never have been the same without Jesper, and this was one of the first tracks that got us global cred.

5) Moby - I Like To Move In Here (Proxy Remix)

first off, having a big international name like Moby on the label felt legit, but thats not why i chose this. I picked it cuz for many years Proxy was THE go-to guy for total nu-jack-rave mastery. Yes, "Raven" was bigger, but i always felt this remix was incredible, with a deep and unique understanding of techno-funk. still sick. always dope. he still has never been beat.

6) Clouds - Consciousness

of the techno renaissance era tracks of the past few years, this one stands out for two reasons: first, because its a truly special techno anthem, and i think arguably the best techno record we ever released. second, because it marked a continued commitment to an artist and their development: Clouds were my fave from day one, but they just got better and better, and worked closely with me and my brother......and that feels like REAL label progress.
