¨The Man has just finished burning, it’s time to gently start the groove.
i’ve been selecting music for this moment for the past few weeks but i’m still unsure of what to come up with… opening the night is like starting on a blank canva. i open with a poem of Dylan Thomas, as i did the first time i played the Mayan Warrior in 2019, then these few dub techno tracks i’ve been obsessed with lately… more and more people are coming, i love how we’re dancing in this such unique « burning man way » out there on the playa. i’ll take a deep breath for a couple track and ready to lift-off !! a dust storm arrives… what a time to be alive!!

The bond between Sprechen & the Idaho based duo Causeway (Allison Rae & Marshall Watson) has been steadily building over recent time with various message & props to each other as well Allie providing outstanding vocals on The Thief Of Time release last year.

With previous releases on Italians Do It Better (one of our fave labels!) they are now front & centre on Sprechen with their latest single 'Dancing With Shadows', a pulsating piece of hefty synth style action which precedes their forthcoming long player.

The single is a sonic exploration of the duo's expansive musical palate which cites influences from contemporaries such as The Cure & New Order (and even John Hughes movies!) but with a presence that is 100% unique to Causeway. Stripped back instrumentation and stacked synths create a dreamlike soundscape where Allison's vocal becomes the guiding light and provider of additional emotion on this neon soaked journey.

Dancing With Shadows comes across like a main track from the sequel to Drive that we never got (though we live in hope!), cinematic, stunning and a real plentiful taster of what is to come on their album next year.

Remixes take the track into other dysfunctional disco realms with Marshall himself providing a pumped up club mix that cranks everything from the OG up to 11 on the 'chunk-o-meter'. Whilst Sprechen's very own Chris Massey goes in for the acid kill with his 303 tweaking A Love From Outer Space style mid set stomper. Speaking of A Love From Outer Space, Sean Johnston himself gives a deep, moody & more psychedelic affair to his rework that takes things subterranean. Whilst Kiaki takes things deeper into stripped back chug territory which is equal parts hypnotic & hooky with a stomping backdrop...big!

Dj, Producer and Liebe*Detail key artist Matthias Meyer hails from the quiet town of Lueneberg, near Hamburg, Germany. As a young, excited music lover, the hi-tech sounds of Detroit and Chicago spoke to Matthias, and encouraged him to seek the excitement and hustle of nearby Hamburg's diverse club scene. From here he let music take control, actively promoting this newfound scene in his local towns with the Sfunkt DJ collective, organising parties that would bring the electronic message to an otherwise dance-less area.

Together with the Sfunkt crew and his close friend and future production partner Patlac, Matthias began to play bigger and better venues, to more and more acclaim. His horizons began to broaden, and his production skills sharpened, seeing the release of his debut track, 'Reichenbach', on Hamburg's much-loved Liebe*Detail label in 2006. A tough and powerful, big-room bomb, Reichenbach summed up the Meyer's broad mixture of influences, from Detroit's technical wizardry to the musicality and experimentation of Germany's fresh faced electronic movement.

'Voltage', his second release was to follow with yet more hit potential, carrying a beautiful, resonating melody across a positively uplifting techno backdrop, but it was his release in the summer of 2008, 'Tout Va Bien,' that really defined Matthias Meyer's current musical direction. A long, meandering, deeply spaced percussive journey, full of intricate detail and raw, organic textures, the track received huge support and quickly brought the young musician's name even more into the light.

As the winter months of 2008 approached, and the buzz from 'Tout Va Bien' still worked its magic, Matthias collaborated with long-time friend and producer Patlac, creating another huge club moment entitled 'Skipper'. This was released on Liebe*Detail's 'Spezial' offshoot label, along with the equally moving track 'Salt City', to yet more praise. It seems these two projects really summed up Matthias' inner love not only for serious grooves, but real drama in his music. These are tracks full of uplifting, positive sentiments, painstakingly designed so that their sound and message comes through as clear as possible.

Matthias has broken through into spotlight thanks to his uniquely passionate take on the house and techno genres. His love of rich, energetic club music full of texture, life and heart propels him to work more and more. His work as a Dj allows him to bring this very human, endearing quality to an increasingly large audience.

In his eyes, the great joy of Djing house music is that, unlike in so many other scenes, he doesnt need to play pop hits to get dancefloor recognition. Instead, he can spin a long tale of rolling grooves and evolving, emotive musical stories that provoke a different, inner relationship between DJ and dancer.

The third episode of the microcastle podcast welcomes label artist Khen. The Israeli producer is coming off the release of his first original project for us entitled 'Pollen Spreader'. Released earlier this month, the four track EP featured a Luca Bacchetti remix and was a huge success; reaching #10 in the Beatport overall Top 100,  #2 in both Electronica and Progressive House, and #4 in Techno. For the third edition of our podcast we've chosen a live set of Khen's recorded from his first gig at Bahrein, Buenos Aires in October of this year. It was a momentous occasion for the young Israeli artist and one which left lasting memories for his Argentinean fans. Over four magical hours he worked through an effortless flow of rugged beats, deep grooves and poignant melodies. His much loved 'Secret Shining' and 'Sunflakes', along with several unreleased gems touched the hearts and minds of all who attended that night.  Khen's approach to DJing in a way mirrors his most loved production hallmarks, where there's a compelling story unfolding at each and every moment, ultimately building to something truly special. It's certainly not a common trait amongst today's DJs and just one of many things which sets him apart from the pack. It makes each and every set a special experience just like this one here. A year later, the saga continues with another podcast bleeding emotions, for You and your listening pleasure. 
Despite being a relatively short mix, the track selection required a lot of thinking, just like the previous piece I delivered to XLR8R. This one is yet again inspired by the roller coaster of emotions I went through last year, as well as my worldwide travels, and the sadness I feel whilst facing the countless political issues and terrorist attacks that take place all around the globe.
