"Valse Lente" (Slow Waltz) by Mélanie Bonis (1858-1937)

This enchanting slow waltz showcases the refined elegance and lyrical beauty characteristic of French Romantic composer Mel Bonis. Written for piano four hands, "Valse Lente" displays Bonis's gift for melodic invention and her sophisticated harmonic language that bridges the Romantic and early modern periods.
Recorded in 2023 on a Bösendorfer 214 VC grand piano at Cunningham Piano, King of Prussia, PA. The warm, singing tone of the Bösendorfer perfectly complements the intimate character of this rarely performed gem from the French piano repertoire.
Mel Bonis, though largely overlooked during her lifetime due to societal constraints on women composers, created over 300 works of exceptional quality. Her music deserves a prominent place alongside her contemporaries Fauré, Debussy, and Chaminade.
