Second set of remixes on Romanthony's re-vocalled classic. 

We've been a fan of Motor City Drum Ensemble since the brooding and eerie "Escape To Nowhere" in 2007 - a track that sounded like someone had listened to "French Kiss" on acid and then tried to recreate what they heard. So when we started re-issuing Romanthony's classics with fresh remixes, MCDE's Danilo Plessow was always someone we wanted to on the project. It has taken 2 years to organise this mix and now it is finally here it doesn't disappoint. 

Taking on "Trust", most people would head straight for the vocal but Plessow instead eschews that idea for a warm, low slung groove reminiscent of Muzique Tropique and early Glasgow Underground releases by Studio Blue. The first 12 of the package featured his vocal flecked Deep Mix - this 12 features his completely instrumental dub mix. When Kevin McKay and Freeform Five's Anu Pillai got together earlier this year to remix "Weltareh", Freeform Five's single on Eskimo they got talking about their shared love of Romanthony. McKay was planning on remixing "Trust" but hadn't started on the project yet so invited Pillai to join in. Over the years Pillai has collected an amazing array of unusual analogue synths and vintage outboard gear. This allowed him and McKay to take "Trust", soak it in acid goodness and deliver a near-on 13 minute epic mix that provides both dub and vocal versions in one. Great one for the toilet break.

The Golden Boy follows up his recent mix of Per QX & Paramour's "Ready For This" (which got some nice love from Camelphat, Forrest, TCTS & Landmark recently) and was no doubt a surprise for those who know him by his earlier more vocal and hook driven dance music. 

This new single carries on his more underground approach. "Freed" has the killer bottom end bounce that you are used to hearing from someone like Metodi Hristov but with a lush collection of Prydz-like melodies on top. If you're a fan of Paride Saraceni or any other more musical, progressive-influenced tech at the moment, check this out straight away.

Remixes come from Mike Vale (who's "Dark Rooms" track was the pick of our Miami sampler with love from Monika Kruse, DJ T, Claptone, Groove Armada, Dennis Cruz & Paride Saraceni) and Spencer K (who's has a LOT of very cool labels after his razor-sharp beats just now…)

Glasgow Underground’s latest features two new jams from the creators of our Guilty Pleasure track of the year so far. The Bill Withers penned ”Who Is He (And What Is He To You)" is one of our favourite club songs (the Meshell Ndegeocello / Danny Tenaglia version is also wicked) and Alaia & Gallo’s new version is perfect sunshine dancing material. Fresh from their success with that, the guys have delivered these two club-ready crackers. 

"Pushin' from The Walls" is a proper house groove with a tough jacking bassline, floor-filling vocals and loads of percussive fx and wonky noises.  If you like John Tejada's "Sweat (On The Walls)" then this will be for you. Kevin McKay delivers a deeper take that hints at classic organ-house such as Jaydee, Feel The Drums or The African Dream without actually getting his M1 organ out (as I think we can all agree that's been DONE!). According to Kevin, he “imagined himself on the Sub Club dancefloor at 1am and thought about the record he’d most like Harri to play next.”

"For Me" is just as DJ-friendly but delivers a more musical experience, its string hooks and hypnotic vocals reminding me of the glorious King Britt Remix of Josh One’s “Contemplation”.
